Former Chelsea coach, Avram Grant has taken to his Instagram page to drum support for the embattled coach of Chelsea football club, Frank Lampard.

The 65-year-old Israeli tactician stressed that Frank Lampard can still turn things around at Chelsea if the club is patient with him and Lampard keeps demonstrating “fighting spirit”.

Chelsea have been having it difficult in the Premier League after their 3-1 win over Leeds United on December 5, 2020. Since then, Frank Lampard and his boys have recorded 4 defeats, a draw, and just a win in their last 6 league matches.

This terrible drop in form has dragged the London club, from the first spot on the league table to the 9th spot with 26 points. So far this season, Chelsea have suffered a total of 5 defeats in the league, 5 draws, and just 7 wins in 17 league games.

These stats have changed the perception that Chelsea are Premier League title contenders this season despite the over £200 million investment the club made during the 2020 summer transfer window.

Despite the call for the sacking of the English tactician, Avram Grant who was the coach of Chelsea between 2007 and 2008, said via a video he shared on Instagram that when things are going well, everyone is a genius.

Hence, he urged Frank Lampard to be strong now that things are not going well at the club and show character which could help to navigate the club back to winning ways.

“About the current situation, I can say only this. You need to be strong when things are not going well, when things are going well everyone is a genius and knows what to do,” Grant said.

“But in a situation like this when things aren’t going well you need to be strong, look for solutions, and show a lot about your character.

“What I can say to Frank and the others at the club is be patient, and more than this do whatever is necessary to do that’s for sure. Two things: never lost it even when things are going well, don’t lose your fighting spirit at the highest level.

“And second, don’t lose what you have here [points at hand] you need to think right and look for solutions. If you do that then everything will be okay because the quality is there and there is a potential like there was [at Chelsea] in my time.”

Recall that during the one season Avram Grant spent at Chelsea as the manager of the club, he took the club to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in the history of the club and also contended for the Premier League title until the last day of the season.

The Israeli tactician didn’t stop there, he helped Chelsea to reach the league cup final but failed to win it. He was sacked at the end of the 2007-2008 season despite how far he took the club.

During Avram Grant’s time at Chelsea, Frank Lampard served as a player under him and together with Chelsea’s all-time highest goalscorer, the Israeli coach made a huge mark at the London club in less than a season before his contract was terminated.
