Sheffield United can still avoid dropping out of the Premier League this season despite suffering 14 winless run which has rooted them at the bottom of the league table with 2 points.

The 2020-2021 season has been a direct contrast to the 2019-2020 season as far as the situation of Sheffield United is concerned. Coach Chris Wilder led the club to a 9th spot finish in the league after recording 14 wins, 12 draws, and 12 defeats.

Chris Wilder was expected to continue with such a performance in the 2020-2021 season or probably surpass their last season’s performance. Unfortunately for the club, Sheffield United is on the verge of being relegated.

So far this season, Chris Wilder has led Sheffield United to 12 league defeats and two draws in 14 league games. The coach is yet to record any victory even against newly-promoted West Brom, Fulham, and Leeds United.

Among the three newly promoted clubs, only against Fulham that Sheffield United was able to get a point after a hard-earned 1-1 draw. They got their second league point against Brighton on Sunday after they forced out a 1-1 draw away from home.

Sheffield United’s coach Chris Wilder told the press ahead of the club’s league game against Everton scheduled for December 26, at 21:00 that his club can survive the drop despite the club’s current standing on the league table.

“The odds are there for a reason, but the odds are always there to be beaten as well”, Wilder said. “The season doesn’t finish after 15, 20 games so as long as there are games to play, then we have a situation where we can pick up points – and who knows what happens above us?

“Of course looking at the points tally and the gap, we’ve got to obviously claw our way back into the fight first and foremost. But there are enough games to do that.

“What we have shown here at this football club is that there is a big fight in us always, a fight to get into the Premier League, a fight to stay in the Premier League in our first season, and now a huge fight to do the same.

“We can do it, but obviously over this period, we need to do it sooner rather than later and give ourselves a chance.”

If Sheffield United manage to win against Everton on boxing day, the club will have 5 points in 15 league games. This means that the club will be at least 8 points away from escaping from the relegation zone. But that will depend on the outcome of the league games of the clubs above Sheffield.
