Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund is now the youngest player to score a goal in a German Bundesliga game. The 16-year-old striker achieved this feat on Friday, December 18, 2020, when Borussia Dortmund visited Union Berlin for a league game.

Though it was one of the biggest moments of Youssoufa Moukoko in Dortmund’s colors, it ended sadly for the youngster as his 60th-minute goal couldn’t stop Dortmund from falling 2-1 in what supposed to be a must-win match for the struggling club.

Before Union Berlin’s Marvin Friedrich spoilt Dortmund’s party in the 78th minute with the winning goal, Moukoko had his moment when he took full advantage of Marco Reus’ through pass to score the goal that was almost like a point saving goal.

The fact that the Cameroonian born Germany youth international scored his first Bundesliga goal at age 16 years and 28 days, means that he has broken Florian Wirtz’s record who became Bundesliga’s youngest goalscorer in May 2020. The youngster set the broken record when he scored for Bayer Leverkusen against Bayern Munich aged 17 years and 34 days.

As it stands, Youssoufa Moukoko’s historic goal might not stop the entire Dortmund team from being bashed for the lackluster performance that earned them the 5th defeat this season.

Recall that the board of the club had to sack the former coach, Lucien Favre, after leading the club to suffer a humiliating 5-1 defeat at home in the hands of newly-promoted Stuttgart. The coach was replaced by his assistant Edin Terzic in an interim capacity.

Edin Terzic led Borussia Dortmund to a spirit-lifting 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Tuesday leaving the fans with the belief that the club was in the right hands. Unfortunately, his second game in charge of the team ended in tears.

The regular defensive errors that characterized the reign of coach Lucien Favre is still noticeable under coach Terzic. The team is fond of losing possessions in dangerous areas of the team’s half.

While referring to the club’s 2-1 defeat at home to Cologne in November and then Friday’s 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin, Dortmund defender Mats Hummels said: “We have now lost two league games through set-pieces — that’s a disaster.

“We’re simply beating ourselves up, that can’t be allowed to happen.”

After Dortmund’s defeat against Union Berlin, the captain of Union Berlin, Christopher Trimmel noted how difficult it is for any club to defeat his team.

“It’s great that we win the game through two set-pieces,” Union Berlin captain told ZDF.

“There was a lot of passion, no opponent has it easy against us.”

As of the time of publishing this report, Borussia Dortmund are occupying the fourth spot with 22 points from 13 games. While 5th placed Union Berlin are a point behind Dortmund after the same number of league games.
