There are eight positive cases in the latest COVID-19 round of testing in the English Premier League.

Burnley is one of the affected clubs this time around. Phil Bardsley was left out of Monday’s draw with West Brom after a positive test. They reported five positive tests in the previous week.

The Premier League in a statement said 1,575 players and staff were tested between Monday, October 12, and Sunday, October 18, and eight of those samples came back positive.

Bardsley and the other infected individuals who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

Premier League clubs, Players, and manager affected by COVID-19

As the virus continues to affect daily lives, footballers, club staff, and managers are not spared. Let’s take a look at some players, clubs, and managers that have bee affected by the virus up till date.

The first manager to contract COVID-19 in England was Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta. The latest victim is West Ham United’ David Moyes, whose team has been on a good run despite his absence.

Recall that Liverpool legend, Sir Kenny Dalglish, contracted the dreaded virus but survived the battle while he was in the hospital for a gallstones operation.

Wolves

Wolve’s winger, Adanma Traore was initially stopped from making his debut for Spain last month by the dreaded virus after his sample returned positive twice.

Liverpol

Also last week, Liverpool winger, Xherdan Shaqiri was believed to have been infected during his international duty with Switzerland. His teammate, Sadio Mane was not spared as well, but recently he returned to the pitch for the Merseyside Derby against Everton after recovering.

It could be recalled that Thiago Alcantara was the first reported cases in the club and the Spanaird has recovered as well.

The good thing is that they all recovered from the virus on time and the game continues.

However, it’s not a good thing for the call of fans’ return to the stands.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi was infected but later confirmed to have recovered from the virus.

“Hi guys, as you may be aware I had the virus for the last couple of days, which I’ve recovered from,” Hudson-Odoi said on his social media channels.

“I’m following the health guidelines and self-isolating for the week. I hope to see everybody soon and hopefully be back on the pitch very soon. Take care,” he tweeted then.

This led to the temporary closure of Chelsea’s training ground as they had to self-isolate.

Same was the case with Liverpool and Everton at a point positive cases were reported.

Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers raised an alarm some of the players had shown “symptoms and signs” of coronavirus. Those concerned had to enter a period of self-isolation.

Manchester City

After a Real Madrid basketball player got infected, the UEFA Champions League clash between the Galactico and Manchester City had to be postponed.

Their La Liga rival, Barcelona also suspended all activity and told their staff to stay at home.

There was also a time Benjamin Mendy had to self-isolate after a family member tested postive.

Crystal Palace

Jordan Ayew is the latest player to have been infected. This made the Ghanian international miss the Premier League clash against Brighton.

As attention will now shift to the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League for the next three days, we will be looking forward to the latest development on the next round of COVID-19 tests in the Premier League and other top Eruopean clubs.
