Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged by the English Football Association for failing to control their players during their 1-1 draw on Sunday, October 5, 2024.

The FA termed the incident a “mass confrontation”, with both clubs expected to face punishments for their actions.
Tempers had flared after Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams looked to push defender Marc Cucurella off the pitch, with the Spaniard colliding with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
Players of Chelsea registered their displeasure with the occurrence by having a go at Williams, with players of Nottingham Forest also coming into the picture to defend their teammate.
Fascinatingly, no action will be taken against Nicolas Jackson after the Chelsea forward appeared to have slapped defender Morato during the scuffle.
The incident involving Jackson and Morato is understood to have been reviewed by the video assistant referee at the time and waved away for action to continue.
Statement From English FA
Via a statement shared by the FA on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, they claimed that the two clubs failed to ensure their players comported themselves.
A part of the statement read: “Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged after the mass confrontation at their Premier League fixture on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute.”
Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have until Thursday, October 10, 2024, to respond to the charge.
Players Booked Following The Scuffle
Three players were booked following the brawl – Neco Williams for Forest alongside Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill for Chelsea.
Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, and Wesley Fofana were also booked during other spells of the game.
The booking to Cucurella in the 1-1 draw to Nottingham Forest meant that he would be unavailable for Chelsea’s trip to Liverpool on October 20, 2024.
Fofana, who was also cautioned, will miss the Blues trip to Anfield for their clash against Arne Slot’s side.
Chelsea To Pay Fine Of £50,000 For Accumulation Of Yellow Cards
Due to a total of six players being booked for the Blues throughout the match, Enzo Maresca’s side are the subject of an automatic £50,000 fine for accumulating six or more bookings for the second time in a match this season.
The Stamford Bridge club are top of the Premier League’s disciplinary standings and have picked up the most bookings of any club this season with (27), three more than Manchester United (24) after seven matches.
Enzo Maresca Is Not Bothered By His Side’s Discipline
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said he was delighted to see his team “fighting together” and maintained he was not worried his team had a problem with their discipline.
Maresca said: “For sure, there are things that we can control and do better, and probably this is one of the things. But the way they are fighting together, the way they are doing things together, I’m very happy.”

Chris Wood had initially put Nottingham Forest ahead at Stamford Bridge in the 49th minute before Noni Madueke equalized for the Blues 8 minutes later.
The stalemate saw Chelsea remain in 4th position, having recorded 14 points from 7 matches this campaign.
Forest, who are tutored by Nuno Espirito Santo, occupy the 10th spot on the English Premier League table, with 10 points from 7 matches.
