England skipper Harry Kane has been the subject of criticism from German newspaper BILD despite his great performances so far this season.

The Bayern Munich star has been in sensational form this campaign. He recently reached 50 goal contributions for his side in the Bundesliga, in just 35 games, setting a new record.

Since making the switch to the Allianz Arena from White Hart Lane last season. He has scored 54 goals and assisted another 17 in just 52 games played across all competitions. For the first time in his career, he won the European Golden Boot following an impressive goal-scoring streak in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.

However, renowned German media outlet, BILD, seems utterly unimpressed by the Englishman’s efforts. A recent publication by one of its top journalists smacks Kane for his below-par performances in big games.

Assessing his performance in the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, journalist Walter Straten did not mince words in his scathing review in his column.

“Lots of effort, too little success. Harry Kane is hanging around alone up front,” the extraordinary verdict, which was also published online, read.

”What good are three goals against Kiel if he doesn’t even get a shot on goal in a big game like yesterday?”

”Fairness dictates we shouldn’t unleash the Kane-can’t-win-a-title curse now. Especially since he had to leave injured,” Walter Straten wrote.

Away from Straten’s scathing remark, a real source of worry for Harry Kane would be the ankle issue he picked up in the closing stages of the clash against Leverkusen.

He will be hoping to regain fitness before the UEFA Champions League clash against Aston Villa.

It has been reported that he is currently undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, sources close to the club reveal the issue isn’t a serious one, and there is serious optimism regarding his availability for selection against the English team.

Harry Kane’s Performance for Bayern Munich this season

Harry Kane has been in amazing form since the start of the season, with the tie against Leverkusen being the only game he hasn’t had a goal contribution this season.

He opened his campaign with an assist against Wolfsburg in a 3-2 away win, setting up Serge Gnabry’s clutch winner.

His first goal of the season came against Freiburg in the next game, scoring the opener from the spot in a 2-0 win. He went on to contribute to four goals as Bayern thrashed Holstein Kiel 6-1, scoring a hat-trick and setting up another one.

His most notable performance was scoring four goals against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. The four-goal haul saw Bayern Munich thrash the Croatian team 9-2. He followed that up with a goal and two assists against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

However, he was unable to contribute as his team were held to a 1-1 stalemate against Bayer Leverkusen. It was the first time he failed to get on the scoresheet or set a teammate this season.

So far, Kane has racked up nine goals and four assists, in six games played for Bayern Munich this season.

Is the BILD criticism of Harry Kane fair?

BILD’s review is perhaps harsh on the contributions of Harry Kane for Bayern Munich this season. He has scored and assisted more than any other Bayern Munich player.

He has also been influential in all Bayern Munich games this season, scoring and assisting in every game, bar the tie against Leverkusen.
