France Legend Thierry Henry has stepped down from his position as France Under-21 manager according to reports.
Following a second stint as assistant manager of the Belgium national team, the legendary Arsenal player was appointed as France U-21 manager in August 2023 on a contract lasting until 2025.
Thierry Henry also brought in former teammate Gael Clichy as his assistant.
Henry led France’s team at the 2024 Olympics held in their home country during the summer, winning a silver medal.
However, well-known Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday, August 19 that the former Barcelona star has stepped down from his position as the coach of France’s Under-21 team for personal reasons.
During his time with the Under 21 side, Henry oversaw six games and maintained a 67% win rate.
He also led the France Olympic squad to victory in eight out of 11 matches, with their only loss occurring in extra time during the final against Spain.

In his departure statement, Thierry Henry didn’t mention any reason for his abrupt exit as he only expressed gratitude towards the FFF and President Philippe Diallo for providing him with an amazing opportunity.
Speaking on his exit, Henry said: “I would like to thank the FFF and President Philippe Diallo, who offered me this incredible opportunity.”
He emphasized that winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games for his country was a moment of immense pride in his life and expressed appreciation to the players and staffs of the team.
He added: “Winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games for my country will remain one of the greatest prides of my life. I am incredibly grateful to the Federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live a magical experience.”
France Football Federation Confirm Henry’s exit
FFF President Philippe Diallo expresses gratitude to Thierry Henry for his successful leadership of the Espoirs and Olympiques teams while confirming his resignation as France U-21 manager.
Despite regretting Henry’s departure, Diallo praises his accomplishments, including winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
Philippe Diallo said: “On behalf of the FFF, I would like to thank Thierry Henry for all the work he has accomplished at the head of the Espoirs and Olympiques teams.”
“We obviously regret this decision because Thierry Henry was able to achieve the objectives that had been set for him by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, 40 years after the Olympic medal in Los Angeles”
What’s next for Thierry Henry?
Henry became France U-21 manager after gathering coaching experience at Monaco and Montreal in the MLS.
The French star departed the Montreal team after leading for 29 games, due to “personal reasons” which included not being able to see his children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As it stands, Thierry Henry continues to work as a pundit with CBS Sports and is anticipated to contribute to their coverage of the Champions League this season.

Former French football star Thierry Henry had a successful career with France’s national team, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2000, and 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.
He achieved numerous accolades, including being named French Player of the Year five times, making the UEFA Euro 2000 Team of the Tournament, and receiving the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup Golden Ball and Golden Shoe.
Henry was also honored by being named to the 2006 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team and becoming France’s record goalscorer in October 2007, a title he held until December 2022.
After retiring from international football following the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Henry took on a new role as the manager of the France national under-21 team.
