Jamaican footballer, Javain Brown is set to leave Vancouver Whitecaps FC after the club terminated his contract.
The MLS outfit confirmed in a club statement on Monday that the player has been placed on waivers (released from his contract).
The club’s sporting director, Axel Schuster thanked Brown for his contributions to the club since he joined in 2021 and wished him well in the next phase of his career.
“We are very thankful to Javain for his contributions to the club over the last three-plus years and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career,” he said.
Schuster further clarified the decision to release Javain Brown from his contract followed a lengthy discussion with the player and his representatives. He added the club settled for the contract termination after both parties agreed to end their collaboration.
“Over the last month, we’ve had several open conversations, and explored a number of options, ultimately everyone agreed this was the best decision for the club, as well as Javain and his family.”
Brown joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC during the 2021 MLS SuperDraft as 23rd overall. He made 62 MLS appearances and 107 in all competitions, starting 81 of the matches. He was crucial in Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s triumph in the Canadian Championships, recording 12 goal contributions which comprised of 2 goals and 10 assists.

Javain Okemio Brown, born on March 9, 1999, is a professional football player from Jamaica. Brown played as a defender for Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS and Jamaica senior national team. The Kingston-born footballer began his youth career at Kingston College Football Academy.
After a great career with Kingston College Academy, Brown made his first professional senior club appearance for Harbor View Football Club, a football club, playing in the Jamaica Premier League – the country’s top-tier football league.
He made 17 league appearances for Harbor View, scoring one goal in his two-year spell. Meanwhile, he was temporarily loaned to Santos, another Kingston-based outfit in Jamaica. At Santos, Brown failed to make a single appearance for the club.
In 2019, he joined Treasure Coast Tritons – a Florida-based outfit, playing in the USA second division – the USL Leagues Two. He managed only 5 appearances for the club and left after a season.
Away from his rickety and unconvincing career start, Brown enlivened his career in 2021 following his move to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the MLS in 2021. He made 62 MLS appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals.
International career
Javain Brown made the Jamaica U-20s squad between 2018 to 2019. While he was listed in the squad, there are no records showing he actually featured for the team.
However, he was already spotlighted back in 2017 for Jamaica senior national team role. He has been capped 17 times since making his debut. Javain is a two-time winner of the Canadian Championship with Vancouver Whitecaps in 2022 and 2023.
