The away kit of Arsenal for the 2024/25 Premier League season is inspired by the beautiful continent of Africa.
The Gunners have celebrated the African roots of many of the club’s supporters in London and beyond by having an away kit that indicates the club’s respect and consciousness in their presence.
Arsenal put out a colorful video across their socials, with a fusion of Africa’s bustling and lively scenery alongside that of London.
The away jersey of Arsenal for the 2024/25 season was designed in collaboration with Labrum London.
Labrum is an apparel brand with a focus on British African culture and they take plenty of their design ideas from the continent.
Africa has produced several top footballing stars with some being legends of Arsenal, like; Kolo Toure and Nwankwo Kanu.
Other African stars like Emmanuel Adebayor, Alex Iwobi, and Thomas Partey can also be associated with the Gunners brand.
Meanwhile, Kanu was seen in the launch video shared by Arsenal, which also included current players like Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, and Leah Williamson.
What Is Arsenal’s Away Kit Like?
The shirt has a plain black base but it is brightened up by a generous application of vibrant details.
There are differing red-and-green logos and decorations on the shoulders and collar, while a fascinating white zig-zag graphic stretches down the arms and flanks of the torso and continues onto the shorts.
It appears it is a hand-drawn pattern and within it, there are specks of black which, based on kit manufacturers Adidas, represent cowrie shells.
Cowrie shells were once widely used as a form of currency in Asia and on the Eastern coast of Africa.
Studies indicate that the highly decorative shell comes from a type of sea snail dating as far back as the ancient Egyptians.
Moreover, Red and green are also a color pairing that can be seen in traditional pan-African art and decoration.
The black also part of the kit forms the tricolor found on the Pan-African flag and a banner that has been used to represent the African diaspora since the 1920s.
Reports indicate that Arsenal have also teamed up with Labrum to create an accompanying range of apparel which includes two jackets, a sweater, a t-shirt, and track pants.
Meanwhile, the well-lighted and brightly colored T-shirt will likely be loved by fans of Arsenal and it is expected that many fans will wear it for Gunners matches in the 2024/25 season.
