The 2024 summer transfer window is showing electrifying signs that it will be overwhelmingly bustling, and as such, there are some Nigerian players, who are currently free agents and will be looking to get new clubs this summer.

Nigerian Players Who Are Free Agents In The 2024 Summer Transfer Window

Wilfred Ndidi

Midfielder Wilfred Onye Ndidi is presently a free agent after his contract with Leicester City expired on June 30, 2021.

Ndidi was pivotal to the Foxes securing promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the 2023/24 season and winning the English Championship.

Reports indicate that the 27-year-old has rejected a new offer tabled by Leicester City, meaning he could join a new side in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Foxes put out a new list of released players on Tuesday, June 2, 2024, but the midfielder was not included.

This has fueled rumors that he might pen a new deal with the side despite the breakdown of initial contract talks.

Wilfred Ndidi has been linked with a move to Barcelona, Everton, Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, and Olympique Marseille.

Ndidi is understood to be requesting huge wages and that hampered Marseille from getting his services.

Spain giants Barcelona are looking at acquiring him on a free transfer, and that is why a move to the Blaugrana side looks very possible.

Wilfred Ndidi joined Leicester City from Belgian side Genk for a fee of €17.6 million in 2017 and he has made 273 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists.

Ahmed Musa

Musa has been without a club since he mutually terminated his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February 2024.

Ahmed Musa joined the one-time Turkish Cup winners on a two-year deal in September 2022 after halting his ties with Fatih Karagümrük, another Turkish Super Lig side.

The Nigerian is not new to being a free agent, as in 2021, he made a return to Nigeria Premier Football League heavyweights Kano Pillars after ending his relationship with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr on October 25, 2020.

Musa has been a journeyman throughout his career, having played for 10 teams including; Leicester City, CSKA Moscow, VVV-Venlo, and Al Nassr.

Ahmed Musa was part of Nigeria’s contingent for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but he played no part in all 7 matches the Super Eagles were involved in, as they returned home with the silver medal.

The 31-year-old scored 1 goal and provided no assist in 28 appearances for Sivasspor in all competitions.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Following 7 years at the King Power Stadium, Iheanacho was released by Leicester City at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Kelechi Iheanacho was pivotal to the Foxes winning the FA Cup in the 2020/21 season, before subsequently also clinching the Community Shield title ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The former Manchester City star has been linked with several clubs since it became evident that he would be freed at the end of his contract in June 2024, with Champions League side Aston Villa one of the teams mooted to be keen on getting his services.

Iheanacho has also been linked with possible moves to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, with Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders also eyeing the Nigeria international.

Kelechi Iheanacho netted 61 goals and provided 34 assists in 232 appearances for Leicester City across all competitions.

Gabriel Osho

Gabriel Osho is amongst Nigerian players who are free agents in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Osho’s contract with Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2023/24 season, expired on June 30, 2024.

Speculations claim that the defender could extend his contract with the Hatters, having been at the club since 2020.

His last contract extension was ahead of Luton’s spell in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see where his future lies.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keen on securing his services, as they look to solidify their defensive department.

Sheffield United also reportedly have their eye on Osho, who is yet to be capped by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Gabriel Osho made 85 appearances for Luton Town, scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions.
