Juventus have completed the signing of midfielder Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa for a fee of €50 million.
Luiz has penned a five-year deal with the Serie A side, which runs until the summer of June 2029.
The 26-year-old had a remarkable spell at Aston Villa, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists in 204 appearances.
The Villains signed Douglas Luiz from Manchester City for a fee of €16.8 million on July 25, 2019.
Unai Emery’s side will be making over 100% profit from the sale of the Brazilian, who is currently engaged in 2024 Copa America action with the United States.
His medical was apparently completed in the United States Of America, with confirmation coming subsequently on Juventus’ social media platforms.
Confirming the arrival of Douglas Luiz to the Italian giants, Juventus put out a statement on their website which reads:
“The transfer of the 1998-born midfielder to Juventus is official. He arrives in Turin from Aston Villa permanently, signing a 5-year contract until 30 June 2029.”
The statement culminates with the words which read: “Welcome Douglas, see you on the pitch!”
Douglas Luiz Comments After Sealing A Move To Juventus
Speaking in a video shared on social media, Luiz expressed that he is delighted to join the Turin-based club and keen on playing at the Allianz Stadium.
He said: “I’m really happy to be a Bianconero. I can’t wait to play in the Allianz Stadium. See you soon and Forza Juve!”
Douglas Luiz netted 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa last season.
He was instrumental in the English side earning qualification to the UEFA Champions League for the first time by finishing 4th on the Premier League table.
Luiz will be greatly missed, but Aston Villa’s pressing need to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) meant they had to let go of one of their important players.
PSR stipulations permit losses of up to £105 million over 3 years for clubs in the English Premier League.
The Villa Park side have also cashed in on midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, who joined Everton for a reported fee of €10.7 million.
Chelsea also snapped up 18-year-old attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman for a fee of €22.5 million.
Juventus ended the 2023/24 season 3rd on the log with 71 points from 38 matches, securing UEFA Champions League football, but failing to win the Serie A title for the fourth season in a row.
The Old Lady will be aiming to clinch the top-flight league crown next season, although they will need to silence current champions Inter Milan alongside rivals AC Milan and possible contenders like Napoli, Roma, and Bologna.
