England national team captain Harry Kane has issued a warning to his teammates ahead of Euro 2024 after the team’s loss to Iceland.

The Three Lions suffered a shock defeat to Iceland at Wembley in their last warm-up friendly before their much-anticipated Euro 2024 campaign in Germany.

Thorstensson scored in the 12th minute, seeing off John Stones before blasting the ball past David Raya to nail home Iceland’s only goal of the game and the match-winner.

The defeat was greeted with boos and jeers by disgruntled England fans at the blast of the final whistle as the players made their way off the pitch.

Speaking after the loss, Harry Kane charged his teammates to learn from the defeat and bounce back stronger as they prepare to end their long-running European deadlock in Germany.

The Bayern Munich sensation added the defeat should be a wake-up call for members of the team to know that it is not going to be easy in Germany.

‘‘This could be a nice wake-up call for everyone to realise it is not going to be as easy as people think,” said the England captain.

Kane went on to stress the team should not expect a different turn of events going into the tournament and must take all matches seriously.

‘‘There is a lot of work to do. Sometimes, you need this wake-up call. There are areas we need to improve, especially with our pressure. The group games are going to be very similar to this. We are going to have to defend well, especially the longer balls, and with the ball, we need to be a bit more patient. It is one to look back on.’’

England are in Group C in Euro 2024 alongside Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia. They will kick off their campaign against Serbia on June 16 before taking on Denmark and Slovenia for a place in the knockout stage of the competition.
