Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has signed a contract with Ipswich amidst reports linking the 38-year-old to a possible return to Old Trafford as a manager.

McKenna’s contract renewal has ended speculations the highly sought manager will join a bigger club following a brilliant Championship campaign with Ipswich.

McKenna saw Ipswich win promotion to the Premier League on their first attempt after he led the team to the second division from the third tier.

The back-to-back promotions made the former Manchester United assistant manager a top target for top Premier League clubs who were looking for a new helmsman in their dugout.

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Brighton led the list of clubs interested in McKenna. However, the Blues later went for another high-performing Championship manager Enzo Maresca as the new helmsman.

With Manchester United yet to take a decision on Erik ten Hag, McKenna was still considered a candidate. Brighton were also in the fray with their dugout still vacant.

Now, reports of McKenna’s possible switch to either of the two clubs has been quashed as he pens down a new contract with the club.

“I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club,” McKenna told Ipswich Town’s official website, external.

“We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years.”

The highly-rated manager will now continue with Ipswich in the English top-flight and will aim to keep the newly promoted side in the elite division come next season.
