Arsenal narrowly lost the Premier League title to Manchester City for the second time in a row. The Gunners recorded their best campaign since their legendary invincibles amassed 90 points in the 2003/04 season to win the English top-flight.
However, the 89-point tally wasn’t enough to hand the London outfit the trophy. Manchester City picked up late in the title race to pip the Gunners to the title for the second time, thanks to the Gunners’ shock home defeat to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa which marked the turning point in the race.
The title race went down to the wires when Arsenal saw off Manchester United with a famous win at Old Trafford to keep the hopes alive. However, they needed London neighbors Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United to force City to drop points before they could win the title.
The two games turned out the exact opposite of what the Gunners expected as City aced through easily to take charge of the race and clinch their sixth Premier League title under Pep Guardiola and four in a row.
While it has been an improved campaign by the Gunners, they fell out again against Manchester City.
Reacting to the loss, Arteta said;
“All this is happening because you started believing,” Arteta told the fans.
“You started to be patient, you started to understand what we were trying to do and all the credit has to go to these amazing players, and the staff that are unbelievable.
“I think now it’s time to have a break, think, reflect and please, keep pushing, keep inspiring this team. Don’t be satisfied because we want much more than that, and we’re going to get it.”
Arsenal have improved immensely under Mikel Arteta since the Spaniard took over the club as manager in 2019. They are expected to stage a challenge for the Premier League title again next season.
