Brazil Trump Three Nations To Win Bid To Host 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

    Brazil will host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after trumping a joint bid by Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany.

    The South American nation became the first country to be given the hosting rights by an open vote, with member associations voting 119 to 78 in favor of  Brazil at FIFA’s congress in Bangkok on Friday, May 17, 2024.

    It will be the first time a FIFA Women’s World Cup will be hosted by a South American country.

    Gianni Infantino Congratulates Brazil After Winning Bid To Host 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

    Speaking after Brazil were handed the rights, Gianni Infantino congratulated the country, whilst also appreciating Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany for throwing their hearts into the ring.

    Infantino said: “Congratulations to Brazil.

    “We will have the best World Cup in Brazil. Many thanks as well to the BNG bid, who have been fantastic.”

    The two bids met hosting criteria, however, in a FIFA bid evaluation report, Brazil scored higher on technical aspects covering areas such as stadiums, accommodation, fan zones, and transport.

    The United States of America and Mexico, who are amongst the hosts for the 2026 men’s FIFA World Cup withdrew their joint bid in April 2024.

    Both nations expressed that they would turn their attention to bidding for the tournament in 2031, while South Africa also pulled out of the race in November 2022.

    Brazilian Football Federation President Assures Everyone That The 2027 World Cup will Be Lit

    President of the Brazilian Football Federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues also shared that everyone can be sure that “with no vanity” Brazil “will accomplish the best World Cup for women”.

    The operational manager of Brazil’s bid team, Valesca Araujo, also added: “We are working on a transformation, not only for the country but for the continent.”

    Recall Brazil hosted the 1950 men’s FIFA World Cup, before also hosting the 2014 edition, in which Germany came out as Champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time.

    The 10th edition of the Women’s World Cup will be in line with the 32-team format which was used in 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.

    Brazil win 2027 Women’s World Cup hosting bid

    Spain ended as champions of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after defeating England 1-0 in the final.

    China, Sweden, the United States, Germany, Canada, and France have all also in the past hosted the tournament.

    Brazil has paraded several female footballing stars, including Formiga and Marta, who is often regarded as the greatest female footballer of all time.

    Unlike their male counterparts, the South American nation has never won the World Cup despite their array of stars and they crashed out in the group in the last edition.

    Brazil has several historical stadiums, including the Maracanã Stadium, Mineirão, Arena Castelão, and Estádio do Morumbi amongst others.

    Brazil definitely has got the footballing allure and culture, with fans expecting the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be truly exciting and thrilling.
