What does the future hold for Watford captain Troy Deeney after the club got relegated from the Premier League last campaign?

Watford fans worldwide have been put on the edge about their captain Troy Deeney’s future at the club following their relegation into the English second division last season.

Deeney, who joined the Bees from Walsall 10 years ago, has grown to become a household name amongst the Watford faithful.

Despite their relegation, Deeney scored 10 goals and provided 2 assists for his teammates for Watford last season.

However, after finishing 19th, and ultimately relegating last season, Troy Deeney might begin to consider his options and look for a club to offer him top-flight football.

It is rumored that newly-promoted side West Bromwich Albion are interested in snapping up the 32-year-old.

Watford boss Vladimir Ivic has also not ruled out a summer exit for the striker who has a year left on his contract at Vicarage Road.

He, however, stated that any potential exit for the captain would depend on a variety of factors.

“Everything depends on the offer, on the wishes of the player and the club,” said the Watford head coach.

“We follow the situation and we will take a decision if something happens. We’ll discuss with him the situation and if he wants to stay or move.

“To keep someone who doesn’t want to stay here or be with us is not good for me. If he wants to be here this is our choice.”

Deeney, who has been training away from the senior squad over the past few weeks, rejoined his teammates this week ahead of Watford’s Championship match with Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker is yet to play a part in any of the side’s games so far this season, however, he stated he would not force a move out of his beloved club where he has spent the last 10 years and could consider staying.

Speaking to talkSPORTS in August, he said: “This is my club, I’ve been there ten years now and I’m not going to actively look to leave or anything of that nature,” said the striker.

“I had an opportunity to go to Leicester when they just won the Premier League, obviously it was Champions League football… I never asked to leave then, so why would I ask to leave now?

“If the club decides we need to go our separate ways, it is what it is, I’m a big boy and I can take it on the chin.”

Should Troy Deeney remain at Watford, he would definitely boost their chances of an immediate return to the Premier League, a goal every Watford fan has his or her heart set on.
