Major League Soccer (MLS) has put in place in-stadium VAR announcements, an initiative that has raised a lot of eyebrows.

The in-stadium VAR announcements will see referees explain VAR decisions to fans in the stadium and those watching the broadcast from across the globe.

This initiative by administrators of Major League Soccer (MLS) has been lauded by many, with some fans calling the attention of top leagues like the English Premier League to it, and requesting that they also take this route.

Footage of the in-stadium VAR announcements being used in the MLS has gone viral, and it was used in a game involving Orlando City and FC Cincinnati.

Which Referee Made The In-stadium Announcement?

Referee Ismail Elfath took charge of the encounter, and he explained to the game spectators why he handed Rodrigo Adrian Schlegel a red card.

Rodrigo, who wears jersey number 15 at Orlando City was dismissed in the 23rd minute, for a poorly timed tackle.

Referee Ismail explaining his decision via his communication gadget that could be heard across the stadium blew his whistle after checking the monitor and said:

“After review, foul, tripping by number 15 of the purple team, final decision red card, foul, restart for Cincinnati.”

The game ended 0-1 in favor of FC Cincinnati, having taken the lead in the 1st minute through Luciano Acosta.

The away side bossed the game for large spells of it, however, the players became even in the 78th minute, after Bret Halsey was brandished a second yellow which automatically meant a red card, having initially received his first booking of the game in the 56th minute.

Major League Soccer Continuous Growth

Major League Soccer has continued to experience immense innovations, with the league expected to continually grow as the years go by.

They pulled a massive feat in 2023, acquiring one of the greatest footballers ever in Lionel Messi, and that move has seen the league receive more views from across the globe.

Messi, who plays for Inter Miami FC has been stellar since moving to the MLS, and his contributions have helped Inter Miami to the summit of the Eastern Conference.

Lionel Messi has scored 23 goals and provided 16 assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Moreover, Messi’s Inter Miami are three points better than FC Cincinnati, having played one more game than the latter.

FC Cincinnati have played 11 games this campaign, and they sit 2nd in the Eastern Conference with 21 points, 3 points adrift of 1st-placed Inter Miami, who have amassed 24 points from 12 matches.

The next clash between the two teams will take place on August 25, 2024, and it is expected to be a thrilling affair.
