Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention to Ivan Toney, with the Englishman entering the final 12 months of his deal at Brentford.

Toney has been admired by several clubs in the past 24 months, including; Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Given Ivan Toney’s deal entering into the final year of his contract, it is expected that the attacker will be available for a reduced fee between the region of £40 million and £50 million.

Have Manchester United sorted their attacking problems?

Manchester United are having issues in the attacking department, despite the acquisition of Rasmus Hojlund in the summer of 2023.

Hojlund’s goalscoring form has been wishy-washy this season, and fans of the Red Devils are looking for a striker who can score consistently.

Arsenal are believed to have douced their pursuit of the Englishman, as they continue to monitor Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea are also said to be prioritizing alternative names, particularly Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Matt Hargreaves is presently spearheading Manchester United’s summer recruitment moves as the English giants are yet to agree a compensation package with Southampton for incoming technical director Jason Wilcox.

However, once that phase is resolved and an agreement is struck with Southampton, Wilcox will lead Manchester United’s revised transfer strategy.

Jason Wilson will do this alongside newly-appointed CEO Omar Berrada and the duo will also be tasked with raising cash via player sales to ensure the club complies with Premier League PSR rules.

Dan Ashworth is also presently on gardening leave after stepping down from his role as Newcastle’s sporting director after he was contacted by Manchester United.

Erik Ten Hag’s future remains uncertain, however, Manchester United’s new-look transfer committee are keen on discussing the possibility of signing Ivan Toney, ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer for the Red Devils.

Why could Ivan Toney move to Manchester United?

The possible acquisition of Toney is to provide support for Rasmus Hojlund next season, with Anthony Martial set to end his nine-year stay at Old Trafford when his deal expires in the summer of 2024.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group are focused on acquiring young players with huge potential, however, the allure of Ivan Toney is too tempting to resist.

Brentford’s technical director Lee Dykes recently shared that the talisman will only be sold on their terms.

However, the Bees also have their sights on avoiding any risk of losing their priced asset on a free transfer.

Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough United on September 1, 2020, for a fee of €5.6 million and he has made 137 appearances for the club, scoring 72 goals and providing 22 assists in all competitions.

He is a very lethal forward, skilled in finishing, with other electric attributes and virtually every club will be interested in having him.
