Liverpool have been handed a boost in their slated move for Ruben Amorim as the club’s new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp, 56, announced he will quit his job as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, and the Reds have been in the hunt for a new manager.
A long list of names, featuring Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, former Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, including Ruben Amorim, and other top managers have been linked to the job.
Amorim, 39, has now emerged as a top candidate to take over the reins at Anfield at the end of the season with reports Liverpool pushing to sign the Portuguese.
Amorim’s possible emergence as Liverpool’s new manager would have signaled a big leap on his managerial career but his decision was certainly set to play a big role in the move.
Now, in a quote shared by Sky Sport, Liverpool have been handed a big boost in their pursuit of Amorim as the Portuguese talented young manager clears the air on his future with Sporting Lisbon.
Speaking ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s title-deciding clash with Benfica, Amorim revealed he cannot guarantee his future with Sporting Lisbon, and will leave at the end of the season if the club does not win Primeira Liga.
“I cannot give guarantees. I have been clear on my future. I will leave if Sporting Lisbon does not win a trophy this season.
“The club have their goals which must be respected,” he added.
Ruben Amorim is one of the fast-rising young managers in Europe in the class of Xabi Alonso who was also linked to the Liverpool job.
He began his managerial career with Sporting Braga, managing the club’s reserve team before being promoted to first-team manager in the 2019/20 season.
In his first season as a first-team manager, he won the Taca de Portugal with Braga before joining Sporting Lisbon in the 2020/21 season.
At Sporting Lisbon, Amorim won a domestic double – the Primeira Liga and the Taca de Portugal – in his debut season with the club.
He is en route to winning the Portuguese topflight again as Sporting Lisbon sit top of the table with a point above Benfica, who have played one game more.
