Manchester United are set to poach highly-rated Southampton football chief Jason Wilcox as the club’s new technical director.

As part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s grandiose scheme to restructure Manchester United’s footballing operations, Wilcox will join Omar Berrada as the second high-profile recruitment into Manchester United.

According to the Mail, Manchester United is understood to have officially made a bid to Southampton for Wilcox.

The Old Trafford club were ready to trigger the buyout clause in Wilcox’s Southampton contract and pay the accruing compensation to the Championship club.

Futballnews understands Manchester United are making the move to sign Jason Wilcox after their ill-fated pursuit of Newcastle United’s football director Dan Ashworth.

Meanwhile, it is understood United’s move for for Jason Wilcox was set to be dealt a big blow just like Dan Ashworth’s.

With eight games left before wrapping up the 2023/24 Championship season, Southampton were reportedly unhappy with the prospects of having Jason Wilcox leave this summer, a year after joining the club from Manchester City.

However, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Jason Wilcox has navigated a safe route out of what would have been another dragging tussle between United and the Saints for his services.

He has resigned from his role as Southampton’s football director to push through a move to Old Trafford.

This means United, who have made a formal bid for the 53-year-old, will not be tied down to agreeing a compensation with the Saints to secure the services of the football administrator.

Jason Wilcox had worked with Manchester City for 11 years, taking charge of the club’s academy talents, and overseeing the rise of City academy graduates such as Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Oscar Bob, and Rico Lewis.

Jason Wilcox will serve as technical director for Manchester United, overseeing the club’s academy setup, recruitment, player management, sports science, coach recruitment, and other core aspects of football operations.
