Emotional tributes have been pouring in for Lady Cathy, the late wife of Sir Alex Ferguson, as several football stars were present at her funeral.

One of the most striking tributes was the one delivered by Jason Ferguson, one of the couple’s three sons.

Jason revealed that his mother had dealt with ill health prior to her death, which occurred on October 6, 2023.

Lady Cathy died at the age of 84, and her son also made a fascinating revelation, that the Ferguson family welcomed the birth of a daughter.

Lady Cathy’s great-granddaughter was named Isla Cathleen, in honour of the great-grandmother of the newborn.

Jason Ferguson also paid a touching tribute to the support, Cathy had offered their father during his football career.

Despite the late Cathy not being a fan of football, she was a massive pillar behind Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jason also appreciated his mother for the love shown towards him and his two brothers alongside her grandchildren.

David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Michael Carrick, Ji-Sung Park, Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce were all present at the funeral.

Former Liverpool managers in Kenny Dalglish, and Brendan Rodgers were also in attendance.

Reports indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson accompanied his wife’s coffin out of the cathedral before shaking hands with Canon Andrew McKenzie who conducted the service.

According to The Sun, David Beckham was captured in pictures alongside other mourners outside on the pavement by the Cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Lady Cathy got married in 1966, and they went on a blissful marital journey of about 57 years.

Excerpts from Jason Ferguson’s tribute at the funeral read: “To celebrate the wedding my dad went straight off to play for Dunfermline against Hamilton. And my mum went off to sort out the party.

“That really set the tone, that is not a criticism because my mum had no interest in football, because all she wanted was him to do well.

“She supported him as a player and it’s been said a million times before, my dad couldn’t have achieved what he did without her.

“She had no interest in football, she never went to the games, apart from the cup finals where she would sit with my aunty Bridget and just chat through the game completely oblivious to what was going on.”

Sir Alex Ferguson and Lady Cathy were together in love, and it has been revealed in the past that she stopped her husband from retiring from football earlier than he did.

The former Manchester United manager had initially wanted to retire in 2002, but late Cathy reversed the decision and he further went on to manage the English giants till the end of the 2012/13 season.

Alex Ferguson revealed the manner of conversation they had when he first attempted to exit the sport.

Fergie said: “One, your health is good. Two, I’m not having you in the house. And three, you’re too young anyway.”

The 81-year-old is one of the greatest managers in football history, and he won 49 trophies in total, managing clubs like St Mirren, Aberdeen, and Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson also had a brief stint as manager of the Scotland national team before moving to Manchester United.
