EURO 2028 combined bid was accepted after Turkey’s withdrawal to concentrate on a bid with Italy for Euro 2032—which was also confirmed at a conference in Switzerland.

However, even though neither bid faced opposition, they still required formal UEFA approval for the hosting rights.

With the permission of UEFA, the UK and Ireland abandoned their bid to be Europe’s favored candidate for the 2030 World Cup and instead concentrated on the 2028 tournament.

It is believed that the 2028 event will begin at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and will be conclude in London’s Wembley.

The EURO 2028 will be the first major football event held in Wales, Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland.

EURO 2028 will be played at 10 different venues, including Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The offer also included Casement Park in Belfast and Bramley-Moore Dock in Everton, the latter of which is currently under development.

Along with Scotland, England was one of the 11 nations to host Euro 2020 and they also served as the only hosts of the World Cup in 1966 and the Euro ’96 tournament. England served as the host of the Women’s European Championship in the year 2022.

Turkey had originally bid to host both EURO 2028 and 2032, while Italy had just applied for the 2032 competition.

Turkey withdrew from the bid to host EURO 2028 and the country alongside Italy were approved to co-host the 2032 edition as reported by UEFA.

There are twenty possible host stadiums; by October 2026, ten will be selected, five from each nation.

Aside from Turkey’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium hosting the June Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan, the nation has never hosted a major international tournament.

European winners in addition to serving as hosts for the 1980 and 1968 European Championships, Rome’s Stadio Olimpico was the venue for the Euro 2020.

What Stadiums Will Host The EURO 2028?

The stadiums in UK & Ireland that will host the competition are listed below:

  • Wembley Stadium (London)
  • Principality Stadium (Cardiff)
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London)
  • Etihad Stadium (Manchester)
  • Everton Stadium (Liverpool)
  • St James’ Park (Newcastle)

Will all the five UK countries Including the Republic of Ireland Get Automatic Qualification?

We know that by default when a major event is held, the hosts always automatically qualify.

However, in the case of the 2028 Euro, the five host countries might not be eligible to feature in the tournament as stated by UEFA.

In regards to the EURO 2028, UEFA stated that: “In case of more than two joint-host associations, the automatic qualification of all the host teams cannot be guaranteed and shall be subject to a decision to be made in conjunction with decisions concerning the qualifying competition.”

Nonetheless, a proposal that England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland would be permitted to play in Euro 2028 even if they have been eliminated in qualifying has raised worries among some senior UEFA officials.

All five will compete in the qualifying stages since it is not possible for Ireland and the four home countries to decide which of them should receive special treatment.

When will EURO 2028 tickets go on sale?

The FA has stated that around three million tickets will be available for the event, which is more than any previous European Championship, but has not stated when they will be released.

The FA also anticipates that 2.5 million fans will attend UEFA festivals in the UK and Ireland.
