Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Johan Lange as the club’s new technical director.
Lange was previously the global director of football development and academies at Aston Villa from July 1, 2023.
Before he was made the global director of football development and academies at the West Midlands club, Johan Lange was the sporting director of Aston Villa from July 30, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
The Dane replaces Fabio Paratici, who resigned from his role as Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director of football after being handed a 30-month ban by FIFA from “any football-related activity”.
This was due to his alleged involvement in the inflation of capital gains from the trading of players at Juventus.
Tottenham Hotspur statement on the appointment of Johan Lange
Confirming the appointment of Johan Lange, Tottenham Hotspur released a statement on their website which reads:
“We are delighted to announce that Johan Lange has been appointed Technical Director with effect from 1 November, 2023.
“They also reveal the roles of the Lange, stating that he will “have responsibility for recruitment, analytics and talent identification across our senior and academy teams.”
Aston Villa also revealed the departure of the 43-year-old on October 9, 2023, sharing their “best wishes” and thanking him for his contributions to the club.
An excerpt from a statement released by the club reads:
“The Club can confirm Johan is leaving his role and departs with the best wishes and gratitude of everyone here for his commitment and service during his time.”
Meanwhile, before Johan Lange transitioned into his recent roles, the Dane was previously assistant manager of Copenhagen from 2008 to 2012.
He was also the assistant manager of Premier League club, Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2012 to 2013.
Lange also held the position of technical director at Danish club Copenhagen from May 2014 to July 2020.
The 43-year-old was handed the responsibility of improving Aston Villa’s recruitment and he supritended the signing of notable stars like; Ollie Watkins, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez.
Spurs target for Johan Lange?
Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping that the appointment of Johan Lange leads them to the signing of quality players that will be helpful to the club’s course.
Spurs have had an outstanding start to the 2023/24 season, and they sit joint-top with Arsenal on the Premier League table.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have amassed 20 points from 8 league matches, and they remain unbeaten in the English top-tier football league.
They signed several impressive stars in the summer, with some of those additions already making their mark at the club.
Tottenham Hotspur signed notable players like; Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Véliz, and Ashley Phillips.
They also signed Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk on July 11, 2023, on a free transfer.
