Paul Scholes blasted Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana after his costly error in the club’s 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Andre Onana spilled Leroy Sane’s long-range shot into the back of the net to gift Bayern the lead in the sixth minute, and the visitors doubled their advantage four minutes later through Serge Gnabry.

United fought back to score three goals in the second half, but it was not enough to prevent a fourth defeat in five matches.

Andre Onana spoke to the media after the game and took full responsibility for his mistake.

“It’s difficult,” Onana said. “We started very well but after my mistake we lost control of the game. I’m the one who let the team down. It’s because of me we didn’t win this game.”

Scholes, however, was not as forgiving.

“Onana’s mistake was inexcusable,” Scholes said on BT Sport. “He’s a goalkeeper for Manchester United, he needs to be better than that.”

“It’s not the first time he’s made a mistake like that. He needs to learn from his mistakes and start performing better.”

Scholes’ criticism of Onana is likely to put more pressure on the young goalkeeper. He is still under development, but he needs to start performing more consistently if he wants to be Manchester United’s number one goalkeeper.

It is important to note that Scholes is a former Manchester United player and a legend of the club. He is known for his outspokenness, and his criticism of Andre Onana should not be taken lightly.
