Kyle Walker has put pen to paper on a new contract extension with Manchester City that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.

The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back has agreed to stay at the blue side of Manchester after turning down the opportunity to move away from the current treble winning club.

The 33-year-old England International was heavily linked with a move to several European clubs with Bayern Munich being the favorite to secure his acquisition but no deal fell through before the European summer transfer window closes.

During the last season campaign, Kyle Walker’s place at Man City became doubt when he wandered off the team for a short period, and the Citizen’s head coach Pep Guardiola declared in a press conference that he was not skilled enough to play in his team’s new style of play as an inverted right back.

However, the English football player fought for his place in the team and was an essential member of the team that won the treble for Man City, moreover, he has been the club’s skipper since captain Kevin De Bruyne endured an injury in the first match of the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign.

The right-back has now put an end to speculation surrounding his future with Pep Guardiola’s side after the Spaniard pleaded with him to stay, notably also having dinner with Walker, and has committed to Man City for two years.

Speaking after his contract extension, Kyle Walker said; “I’m absolutely delighted for me, my family, for everyone that’s put in the hard work to get me here. And to represent this fantastic club definitely for another two more seasons, hopefully many more, it’s a real honor”.

“I think that in this team there’s something special. Obviously, just coming back after an amazing high last season in winning the Treble and finally getting the Champions League, which is the one trophy that we didn’t have as a group, and collectively, I wanted to go and do it again”, Walker told Man City’s official media.

He added; “The lads have got that hunger again to go and achieve something really special again this season, fingers crossed. So I wanted to be a part of it and I didn’t want to miss out on that”.

Before Walker agreed to sign a new contract with Man City, the deal between the two parties was on the verge of expiring at the end of this season.

The former Aston Villa player denied attention from German powerhouse Bayern Munich and agreed to stay at Etihad Stadium following in the footsteps of Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva in agreeing to fresh terms with the club.

The 33-year-old is expected to remain at the club until June 30, 2026, based on his new contract with Manchester City.

Kyle Walker joined Manchester City during the summer of 2018 in a deal worth 45 million pounds from Tottenham Hotspur and has secured several domestic and European trophies with the current Premier League champions.

The 33-year-old has been an important part of the club since his move six years ago winning 13 major trophies.

Even though he played a pivotal role in the club’s treble-winning season and made 39 appearances, he was left off the starting lineup for the Champions League final against Inter Milan.

The right-back has been an integral part of City’s 13-title run in the last six years, including the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

What’s next for Kyle Walker?

The England International will be back in action for Man City in the Premier League when the club lock horns against West Ham United on Saturday, 16th of September, and he’ll be looking forward to being in the starting XI.
