Recent reports claim that the only reason why United were able to sign Sofyan Amrabat was because of the secret clause.

Fiorentina was allowed to join Manchester United on deadline day after the Italian side have had several negotiation with the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s side paid €2 million as loan proposal for Amrabat, which will see only €1 million of that fee guaranteed due to a break clause in January.

The Athletic reported that Fiorentina rejected that offer owning to the fact that they believed they could get a bigger amount for their key player.

Sofyan Amrabat finally signed for United, with them paying £8.5 million for the loan with a £21.4 million obligation to make it permanent next summer.

One key issue in the process that brought Sofyan Amrabat to United is that his contract will expire in the summer of 2025,

This means that if Manchester United fail to sign him permanently, Fiorentina might lose cashing in on the 27-year-old as his market value will decrease.

However, recent reports have it that the Italian side have taken steps to ensure that does not become the case for their key player.

Italian outlet Il Tirreno revealed that Fiorentina extended the player’s contract until 2025 last December, using an option in his contract to do so.

They also added that prior to the star’s move to United, the club insisted on inserting another clause in the contract of Sofyan Amrabat.

If Manchester United fail to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent basis, Fiorentina can extend his contract by a further year until 2026.

Italian outlet Il Tirreno also claimed that Fiorentina accepted a ‘deferred payment’ scheme from United in order for this clause to be included.

This is coming following Manchester United’s struggle in the transfer market at the latter end of this summer due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

Football financial expert Kieran Maguire stated that United stepped down on their signings without selling players at the end of the window.

Fiorentina on the other hand valued Sofyan Amrabat around £30 million before his loan move to United with the loan fee plus the obligation fee making up that figure.

Sofyan Amrabat has not featured for Manchester United since his loan move from Fiorentina after the club revealed he has an injury.

Amrabat’s also withdrew from Moroccan camp and the National team manager stated that the player ‘felt something’.

Amrabat was named in the Morocco squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Liberia and Burkina Faso.

Manchester United in their statement published on the club’s website confirmed that Amrabat would return to Carrington for assessment and treatment.
