The future of Aubameyang has been a major talking point at the Emirates since the FA Cup triumph earlier this month. Now, the manager has given a positive update on his contractual situation which will send delight to every Arsenal fan. Arteta has not only confirmed that Aubameyang would stay but also that Gabriel Magalhaes is on his way to North London after the Brazilian had his medical on Monday.
“I keep being positive, we have had some really good talks with him and his agent. I’m confident we will find an agreement soon. He should be very happy that he will be staying at the club for a long time. I think people will be delighted with that news.” Arteta told reporters yesterday.
He then went further to give an update on the Magalhaes situation. “Regarding Gabriel, we can’t announce anything yet. Everything is OK when both parties sign, the club and the player agrees on the terms and he goes through the medical. Sometimes in the final stages, it is not as easy as it looks but, again, we are pretty positive that we can do it. We’re trying to finalise the deal. He’s a player we followed and were determined that he was the right profile for us to improve our squad. When we get it [over the line] we’ll be very pleased.”
Arsenal enhanced their bargaining power when they secured Europa League qualification by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Aubameyang is currently in the final year of his contract but a new deal of three years with a weekly wage of £250,000 has been offered to the Gabonese and is expected to be signed soon. The Gunners recently secured the signature of Brazilian winger Willian from Chelsea and are wasting no time conducting other transfer activities as shown with deals for Aubameyang and Gabriel Magalhaes. Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey is also a target but would be sold if Arsenal pays his release clause.
As Arteta seeks to continue the fantastic job he started at Arsenal, it is imperative that he is backed in the market and the club looks to be doing just that so far.
