Jurgen Klopp has tagged Liverpool’s comeback victory with 10 players at Newcastle as one of the best triumphs he has ever had as a manager.

The impressive match was incompatible with any he had encountered in two decades of coaching.

The German tactician went ahead to praise the Premier League victory over their famous Champions League comeback against FC Barcelona in 2019.

What happened to Liverpool?

Liverpool went to St James Park on Sunday, 27th of August, in matchday three of the English Premier League.

The Reds were a goal down after former Everton player Anthony Gordon scored before their captain Virgil van Dijk got sent off by the match official for a last-man challenge on Alexander Isak before the end of halftime.

However, Liverpool fought back in the second half with Darwin Nunez’s two late goals off the bench in a smash-and-grab 2-1 victory for the Anfield outfit.

Jurgen Klopp applauded the Reds triumph at Newcastle as a more complicated comeback than their outstanding Champions League tie against Barcelona.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach was interrogated about how the comeback related to their popular 4-0 conquest over Barcelona in 2019 at Anfield, an outcome which earned them an aggregate victory after losing 3-0 in the first leg of a Champions League semi-final match.

Jurgen Klopp said: “It was much more difficult than the Barcelona game because that was at home, we played a sensational first game and lost 3-0, Today is completely different”.

“In my more than 1000 games as a coach, I never had a game like this, that is the truth, with 10 men in an atmosphere like this against an opponent like this. I am pretty sure it never happened”.

He added; “These moments are rare and super special. I thought the boys deserved it. With 10 men we played better. It was obviously wild”.

The German manager also provided his opinion on Van Dijk’s red card for a last-man tackle on Newcastle United frontman Alexander Isak.

Jurgen Klopp referred to the decision as harsh, he said; “The red card. We need to have another look. There is no active contact from Virg”.

“There is contact but on the way to the ball, there is a soft touch. For this contact, getting three days suspended, oh my God”.

Newcastle United assistant manager Jason Tindall shushed Jurgen Klopp

Newcastle fans took delight in Liverpool’s early agony before the visitors recovered from behind to win the game in stoppage time after it appeared assistant manager Jason Tindall hushed Reds coach.

Anthony Gordon, a former Everton attacker, gave the home team the lead in the 25th minute after capitalizing on a mistake by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As Klopp peered over, Tindall put a finger to his lips, indicating that he had heard enough of the German’s tirade directed at the fourth official.

Liverpool was hunting for an equalizer in the first half, but Klopp didn’t seem phased by the gesture.

Some Newcastle fans were happy with the 45-year-old’s actions, but many more were outraged.

One angry witness said: “The disrespect is massive, the dude who has never been anything in life shorting up a legendary coach”.

Another added; “It’s all biased, disrespectful, and disgusting watching games like this. Absolutely emotional”.

Another fan emphasized Newcastle’s disastrous record against Jurgen Klopp’s side since Tindall joined the club, he said: “Bit rich considering Newcastle have never beaten Liverpool since he’s been there”.

What’s next for Klopp and Liverpool?

Liverpool host Aston Villa in their next match after the Villans’ excellent 3-1 victory against Burnley on Sunday.

If Van Dijk’s red card stands, he’ll miss the game and the two games after the international break against Wolves and West Ham.
