Roma have officially announced the signing of Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun, who has recently joined the team from Bayer Leverkusen.
Earlier today, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the capital club have finalized a surprising transfer deal for Bayer Leverkusen striker Sardar Azmoun.
This move comes after the Giallorossi had shown interest in Azmoun during the summer of 2021, at the request of the club’s manager, Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho believes the acquisition of Sardar Azmoun will serve as a significant reinforcement for the team’s frontline.
According to reports, the Giallorossi have reached an agreement for a loan deal with a buy option of €12m attached to the Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, Roma had been actively searching for a new center forward for several months now, prompted by Tammy Abraham’s unfortunate injury.
Today, August 26, the Roman side made an official announcement about Azmoun’s arrival.
They released a stylish video confirming that the 28-year-old Iranian will be wearing the number 17 shirt in the Italian capital.
During his 18-month tenure with Bayer Leverkusen, Azmoun excelled in the role of a supporting striker by scoring five goals and contributing five assists in a total of 44 appearances.
Upon joining Roma, Sardar Azmoun expressed his delight and pledged to work hard towards achieving greater success at the club.
He stated: “I find it difficult to put into words the emotions I am experiencing.”
“I am thrilled to be joining one of the most esteemed clubs on the global stage, and it would be a dream come true to win a championship while wearing the Roma shirt.”
“Last year, I had the opportunity to play at the Stadio Olimpico, and I must admit that in all my years as a player, I have never encountered such passionate supporters. I am filled with anticipation to fight for them and work towards achieving our goals.”
Azmoun has joined Roma as their sixth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Evan Ndicka, Houssem Aouar, Renato Sanches, Leandro Paredes, and Rasmus Kristensen.
Having signed Azmoun, Roma’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements for Jose Mourinho is still ongoing.
According to Sky Sport, Roma intended to sign another attacker after they had finalized the deal for Azmoun.
The Giallorossi are considering signing names like Luka Jovic and Moise Kean into the team. Additionally, they are currently engaged in negotiations for Romelu Lukaku, who has been sidelined at Chelsea.
