Jamie Carragher called Moises Caicedo’s Chelsea debut a ‘nightmare’ after the player was introduced from the bench in the 3-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday.
West Ham, who were 10 men down, stunned Chelsea to score a third goal in stoppage time after Caicedo caused a penalty.
Lucas Paqueta scored the resulting penalty to give the Hammers three points as Carragher blasted the Premier League’s record-signing Caicedo.
Jamie Carragher, while speaking on co-commentary on Sky Sports, said that: “Caicedo has had a bit of a nightmare since he came on. It’s a poor, lazy challenge.”
The former Liverpool player had also previously criticised the midfielder after he sent a shot way off-target with just his third touch of the game.
Jamie Carragher said: “He comes in, just his third touch for Chelsea. Not known for his goals, not sure he’s been bought for that!”
Caicedo was on the bench as Chelsea visited the London Stadium as Mauricio Pochettino decided that the new £115million arrival wasn’t ready to start following his move.
The former Brighton star was introduced in the 67th minute as the Blues sort to find an equaliser after Michail Antonio put the Hammers in the lead again.
Moises Caicedo struggled to maintain his cool despite West Ham being down to 10-men after Nayef Aguerd was sent off for a second bookable offence.
The Hammers still launched attacks regardless as the visitors struggled to build on their man-advantage with over 20 minutes left to play at the London Stadium.
Fellow Sky Sport pundit Jamie Redknapp supported Carragher in regards to Caicedo’s debut as he analysed the penalty error.
Redknapp said: “Caicedo hasn’t had any minutes for 60 days and you can see that rustiness. Only the manager knows whether he was ready and he isn’t quite there yet.”
“He will get better. As it can only get better after giving a penalty on your debut.”
Moises Caicedo also lost possession eight times, made two fouls and had one shot off-target during a horrid 37 minute outing.
The former Brighton man was left frustrated after the match as West Ham players celebrated their first victory of the new Premier League season.
David Moyes and Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez consoled the midfielder before he got off the pitch.

Moises Caicedo
Caicedo was born in Santo Domingo, the youngest of ten siblings, and he normally plays football on the scrubland pitches of his hometown, the Mujer Trabajadora neighbourhood, where goals were marked out by piles of stones.
When he was a child, he met local football coach Iván Guerra, who helped him and his family by paying for his football boots, travel and food.
Moises Caicedo was invited to play his first organised football at the Mujer Trabajadora soccer school by Guerra, and he played there between the ages of five and twelve.
Caicedo was initially a forward, and he later developed into a midfielder, and joined local side Colorados Jaipadida at the age of thirteen, an affiliate of professional club ESPOLI.
Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea on 14 August 2023, signing an eight-year contract, with the option of a one-year extension.
