United States Head coach Vlatko Andonovski has resigned as manager after the team’s woeful performance in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
It was revealed that the current assistant manager will be named the interim manager for the United States’ two friendly matches against Bayana Bayana of South Africa on September 21, 2023, and September 24, 2023.
The four-time World Cup winners were eliminated by Sweden in the Round of 16 on penalties. It was the United States earliest exit from the World Cup.
The team started with a win over Vietnam, followed by a draw with the Netherlands and Portugal.
After resigning, Andonovski said “While we are all disappointed by the outcome at this year’s World Cup, I am immensely proud of the progress this team has made, the support they have shown for each other, and the inspiration they have provided for players around the World”.
Andonovski won’t waste any time returning to managerial duties, as he is being eyed by Kansas City as their new manager.
Andonovski was hired by the USA women’s team in 2019 after the resignation of two-time World Cup-winning manager Jill Ellis.
The manager had 51 wins, five draws, and nine losses. In major tournaments, this manager statistically got three wins, two draws, and five defeats.
Andonovski started well, with 11 wins in a row. Although the unexpected performance in the 2020 Olympics from the manager put him under pressure.
It became worse when the United States lost three times in a row to England, Spain, and Germany. It was the worst losing streak for the team in the last 29 years.
He was also criticized for his starting lineup in the Women’s World Cup, coupled with his inability to make use of his bench properly.
Andonovski used big named players like Alex Morgan and Julie Ertz in different positions other than the one they played previously.
Who is Vlatko Andonovski’s wife?
His wife is named Biljana Andonovski. Vlatko and Biljana met in North Macedonia. However, there is no enough information about her private life.
Vlatko Andonovski Age
The manager was born on September 14, 1976, in the City of Skopje, SFR Yugoslavia. He is currently 46 years old and has a height of 1.85 m (6ft 1in). Vlatko started his football career as a defender.
Vlatko Andonovski’s Coaching Style
The manager is always aggressive with the ball tactically, wanting to control the opponent on and off the pitch. Vlatko also likes breaking down defenses with possessive football.
His style of play creates a one-on-one situation as it creates opportunities for the ball to find an open player.
Even though his tenure at the United States was below expectations, his tactical approach to matches made him linked to the rigidity of Italian managers.
