Luton Town have officially confirmed the signing of Netherlands goalkeeper Tim Krul from Norwich City.
The 35-year-old completed the first part of his medicals on Tuesday, August 15, bidding farewell to his City teammates and staff at Colney.
In the past few hours, Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that he has finalized the necessary procedures to complete the move.
Agreement has been reached between both clubs along with personal terms but details concerning the transfer are yet to be revealed.
The former Newcastle United and Brighton goalkeeper is making a comeback to the Premier League after ending his five glowing season tenure at Carrow Road.
During this time, he played a crucial role in the Canaries’ successful campaigns, which resulted in their promotion to the top flight by winning the Championship in both the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons under the leadership of Daniel Farke.
It is worth mentioning that Tim Krul achieved an impressive record of 45 clean sheets in his 169 games for Norwich.
Stuart Webber, the club’s sporting director showered praises on Tim as he wrote on the club’s official website: “Tim has been an exceptional servant for Norwich City.”
“During his time with the club, he has proven himself to be an exceptional goalkeeper and a strong leader.”
In addition to Krul’s highly successful five-year tenure at Norwich following his arrival on a free transfer, the Dutch international was awarded the prestigious Barry Butler Memorial Trophy in the 2019/20 season.
Krul, who was capped 15 times by his country, came to the limelight as a member of Louis Van Gaal’s Netherlands squad.
This squad achieved a remarkable third-place finish in the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.
Despite initially selecting Jasper Cillessen as his first-choice goalkeeper, the former Manchester United boss made a crucial decision to introduce Krul as a substitute during extra time in their quarter-final match against Costa Rica.
Krul’s exceptional performance included saving two penalties, ultimately leading his team to progress to the semi-finals.
The 35 years old stopper has become the 10th new signing made by the Premier League newcomers this summer.
Krul has joined James Shea, Thomas Kaminski, and Matt Macey in the Hatters’ goalkeeping department as the club begins its first-ever Premier League campaign.
He will be competing alongside Thomas Kaminski, a Belgian player who joined Kenilworth Road this summer from Blackburn Rovers.
In an interview with the club’s website, Krul expressed his delight to join Luton Town.
He also revealed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Kaminski, a fellow Flemish-speaking goalkeeper, as they both aim to compete for the club’s No. 1 position.
