The Dutch women’s team struck first in the 17th minute of the first half through Jill Roord.
The Americans came close to equalizing through Trinity Rodman and Horan, but the Netherlands goalkeeper made an excellent save to stop the ball from going into the net.
In the 29th minute, Dominique Janssen came close to scoring, but she blasted the ball over the net in a horrible manner.
The United States went into halftime behind for the first time since 2011. Horan came through in the second half for the United States from Rose Lavelle corner in the 62nd minute.

Portugal kept their hope of qualifying for the next round of the Women’s FIFA World Cup alive with a Comfortable 2-0 win over Vietnam, who cannot progress to the next round.
It was Portugal’s first World Cup win in the 2023 FIFA World Cup. Two first-half goals from Telma Encarnacao and Francisca Nazareth were enough to secure a victory. They are currently focused on getting a win against the United States of America.
It took Portugal seven minutes to score the first goal of the match against Vietnam when Lucia Alves’ cross was finished off by Encarnacao.
Encarnacao created the chance for the second goal of the match. She created the through ball for Nazareth, who scored the goal in the 21st minute of the first half.
Through out the first half, the European country was on top with greater ball possession and five shots on target.
Vietnam struggled to create chances and managed only one shot on target in the match when Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy drew a save from Portugal goalkeeper Patricia Morais just before the break.
Portugal will play against the United States of America on August 1, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. Vietnam will play against the Netherlands on August 1, 2023, at 8:00 a.m.
