Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku has said that his former teammates at Man United, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood are looking good and they could be a force to reckon with next season.

The Belgian who has scored 14 goals in his last ten Europa League games was speaking after scoring a brace against Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals of the Europa League to book a date with Sevilla, who knocked out his former team in the competition.

The five times winner came from behind to win the tie 2-1 after United had gone ahead through Bruno Fernandes form the penalty spot. But they prevailed at the end with United defense caught napping.

“Mason Greenwood is coming through and Marcus Rashford. I am really happy for them. They look good for next season so I have no doubts.” he told BT Sport.

Lukaku further lauded Manchester United for their effort against Sevilla, saying they tried their best.

Sevilla goalie, Yassine Bounou kept the team in the game especially early in the restart denying Anthony Martial twice from close range.

“Man United tried their hardest. They had a good season and Ole [Gunnar Solksjaer] did a good job,” he added.

He further commended his team for their effort in reaching their first European competition final since 2010- 2011, which they defeated Bayern Munich in Champions League final.

“The team is doing well and everybody is doing their best. We worked really hard in the camp. It’s tough but you see the results of the hard work. We want to keep going.

“We knew they were really good in combinations so as long as we kept the centre of defence close, we knew we would not have problems as the physicality of us is too much for them.”

Speaking on his goals scoring record which see him score in his last ten consecutive Europa League games, the Belgian said it’s a win that matters most.

In his last 10 Europa League appearances (five for Everton, five for Inter), he has scored 14 goals – which is the first time a player has netted in more than eight successive Uefa Cup or Europa League appearances.

Manchester United is one of the biggest and one of the richest clubs in Europe. Besides that, they are one of the most followed and successful clubs in Europe. Putting all these into consideration, it would not cost cheap to buy the club.

Take for instance, in May 2005, when the Glazer Family took over the ownership of the club through their late father Malcolm Glazer, the family spent a cumulative fee of £800 million. Since then, they have remained the largest shareholders of the club and control the club through Manchester United plc.

As a publicly-traded company in the New York Stock Exchange, Manchester United was the most valuable football brand in the world, estimated to be worth $1.2 billion in 2015. Four years later, the club’s market capitalization rose to $2.5 billion as of 2019.

According to Forbes publication issued in 2019, the club is the third most valuable club in the world behind Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The value of the Premier League side then was $3.808 billion. This means that before an individual can buy the club such an individual must be able to pay at least £3.15 billion.

Since Manchester United is one of the biggest and third most valuable clubs in the world, it is expected that the Premier League club should be able to pay their players one of the best weekly wages in the world.

Though Manchester United players are among the players in Europe earning the best weekly wages, there are some players whose wages can not be compared to others.

In the case of the Manchester-based club, Alexis Sanchez used to be their highest-paid player. He was reportedly earning a whopping £391,000-a-week before he went on loan to Inter Milan.

Since Alexis Sanchez is no longer at Manchester United, the club’s goalkeeper and Spanish international David de Gea remain the club’s highest-paid player. He has been earning £350,000-per-week since he renewed his 2011 contract with the club.

The 29-year-old Spanish goalkeeper who conceded 36 goals in 38 matches and kept 13 clean sheets in the just concluded 2019-2020 Premier League season, still have until June 2023 to exhaust his current contract with the club.
