Paris Saint Germain have secured the acquisition of 22-year-old Real Mallorca midfielder Lee Kang-in on a long-term contract.

The French powerhouse has been extremely active in the transfer window this summer.

The announcement of Lee Kang-in came on Saturday, 8th of July, 2023, following the arrival of PSG’s new signings Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, and Manuel Ugarte.

All these deals were completed after the arrival of Luis Enrique who succeeded Christophe Galtier as the club’s new head coach.

Luis Enrique, former FC Barcelona, and Spain head coach took over as PSG’s new manager in June following the dismissal of Christophe Galtier after the conclusion of last season due to his poor European campaign.

The next new player to be acquired by the current Ligue 1 champions is Lee, who has put pen to paper on a five years contract with Paris Saint Germain.

Paris Saint Germain took to their social media page to confirm the new commer in a statement released by the club; “PSG is delighted to announce the arrival of Lee Kang-in on a contract until 2028.”

They added that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder becomes the first South Korean player to sign for the club.

PSG are believed to have splashed a fee reportedly worth 22 million euros to get the deal done.

Following his transfer to the French capital, Lee Kang-in said; “It’s a pleasure to be able to join Paris Saint Germain, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, with some of the greatest players in the world”.

He added; “I can’t wait to start this new adventure”.

The 22-year-old South Korean attacking midfielder will represent PSG in the number 19 shirt for the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 season.

Lee has represented South Korea in 19 outings and was part of the Korean team that played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 22-year-old former Valencia CF midfielder made 73 appearances in all competitions during his two years spell with the La Liga outfit Real Mallorca, scoring seven goals and registering 10 assists.

In the next few days, the French powerhouses are anticipated to announce the signing of defender Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich.

The future of Kylian Mbappe, who could be moved this summer after stating he does not wish to extend his contract beyond next summer, is the most pressing issue for PSG after the confirmation of Lucas’ arrival.

Despite Mbappe’s public declaration that he would play for PSG again next season, the club has made it clear that he will not be allowed to stay at the club in the coming season without signing a new deal. This leaves Mbappe with only two options: either sign a new contract with Paris Saint Germain or be sold.

Perpetual suitors Real Madrid is patiently waiting for Mbappe to clarify his position so that they can sign him for free in the summer of 2024.

Kylian Mbappe, PSG’s star player, has informed the club that he does not intend to sign a contract extension beyond 2024, adding to the club’s contract extension woes.
