Quincy Promes has reportedly been remanded in prison after he was found guilty of stabbing his cousin at a family party.
The former Ajax player has been sentenced to eighteen month in prison for aggravated assault.
The said incident happened in the summer of 2020 after an argument ensured between Promes and his cousin, over a stolen necklace.
Promes however stabbed his cousin in the leg and was later slammed with an attempted murder allegation.
Promes denied the charges but the Public Prosecution Service used evidence from two eyewitnesses as well as text messages on Promes’ phone to convict the Spartak Moscow star.
Promes had reportedly intended to hit his cousin in the neck, while the winger warned it was fortunate he was not carrying a firearm.
Quincy Promes, who is 31 years old, has the right to appeal the conviction. Reports also claim that he could have received a lesser sentence if he had attended the trial.
The former Sevilla star is currently plying his trade in Moscow and it believed to be processing his Russian citizenship, which means he could avoid prison in the Netherlands.
There is none extradition agreement between Russia and the Netherlands, and that can only be requested if Promes’s pending appeal fails.
The attacker is expected back in court later this year as he was charged with importing drugs after being accused of investing in two shipments of cocaine in 2020.
An estimated 1,370kg was imported worth a staggering street value of £65m, with the drug being intercepted in Antwerp three years ago.
A trial was held on June 5, 2023 in the Netherlands but Promes once again failed to attend the pre-trial hearing.
