A chocolate Labrador is the latest addition to the Arsenal training personnel, as reporters claim Mikel Arteta assumes her presence will strengthen confidence around the team due to a study that petting a dog can boost moods and decrease stress.

He is said to have taken a lightbulb into the dressing room to show his players that it is useless unless connected to a power source, stressing the importance of connections.

Mikel Arteta brought the chocolate Labrador, named Win, into the compartment as Aaron Ramsdale put pen to paper on a contract extension with the North London club early this week.

According to insiders, the dog (Win) will spend most days at the club’s training ground and there is a primary carer around looking after her and a rota with staff taking swivels to walk her.

He said; “We always talk about family. And being connected. In my opinion, a big family like we are at the club, which I feel we are a family, you need a dog to represent that family”.

“I think there are still things at the club that can be done to connect with people, to be more caring with people, to show love, and I found this dog that in my opinion was the perfect representative of who we are right now”.

He added; “Her name is Win, we all love winning, and Win needs a lot of love. So that love for Win. That is basically it. So the reaction of the players has been incredible, the staff, she is one of us and will be on the journey together”.

Since their ambitions of winning the Premier League title have been crushed, the mood around the Arsenal camp has certainly worsened in recent weeks.

The Gunners have only won two of their previous seven league games, causing them to fall from first place by eight points to second place by four points behind Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Arteta began his senior club career in 1999 with Barcelona, but he saw little action there and was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain in 2001 when he was just 18 years old.

He signed with Scottish team Rangers for a reported £6 million after helping Paris Saint-Germain to the UEFA Intertoto Cup title in his second season in France.

Arteta joined English club Everton on loan in 2005, and after a brief return to his native club Real Sociedad, he signed permanently.

For a rumoured sum of £10 million, Arteta joined Arsenal in 2011. He went on to win two FA Cups while playing for the club and was named captain in 2014. He retired in 2016.

Although Arteta played for Spain at the youth and under-21 levels, he never made it to the senior team. Many people consider him to be one of the best players of this century despite never having played for his country at the senior level.

Following his retirement, he joined Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City. And then appointed Arsenal interim coach over a season later.

After winning the FA Cup in his first season back at Arsenal in 2019, his responsibilities expanded and he was promoted to manager in September 2020.
