Paul Mullin showed that heroes are also found on the pitch as his double sealed a return to the EFL after a 15-year-exile, sparking a mass pitch invasion.

Earlier, Wrexham AFC, owned by film and TV superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, went behind against rivals Boreham Wood.

But their hope was restored after Elliot Lee leveled the tie before Mullin scored his 45th and 46th goals of the season to spark a massive pitch invasion.

This already looked like a start of a rapid rise through the divisions for Wrexham – that is if owners, Reynolds and McElhenney have their way.

They have already brought so much to the club, with their documentary Welcome to Wrexham, which was aired on Disney +. They have been able to attract fans from around the world through the documentary.

Hopefully, the second series which will be filmed this season will help the club garner more supporters and see how far they have come.

The players were even given a hand by the Prince and Princess of Wales, who congratulated them saying: “Congratulations Wrexham.”

“A club with such an amazing history, looking forward to a very exciting future back in the football league. Doing Wales proud. W.”

Wrexham AFC will enjoy top-flight football in July when they take on Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in California and North Carolina in their pre-season matches.

Reynolds and McElhenney were not the only celebrities that were in attendance, Paul Rudd, who acted Ant-Man was also at the stadium.

Paul Tudd would have been disappointed alongside the 10,162 who packed into the Racecourse if Wrexham had not won the match.

The tension was very high as the hosts struggled to find a way into the game after Femi Ilesanmi almost scored for the visitors.

But it did not last long as Wrexham equalized in 15 minutes thanks to Lee’s headed goal in the near post to make it 1-1.

The hosts took the lead in the 52nd minute when Mullin put a ball past keeper Nathan Ashmore and added another in the 71st minute.

Wrexham’s promotion back to EFL League Two came 15 years after they were relegated to the English fifth-tier league.

The promotions brought about emotional scenes in the stadium after full-time whistle as Hollywood stars, Reynolds and McElhenney, called their families while crying.

The fans also took to the pitch immediately to celebrate their success and carry their heroes in style.
