Nathan Ake’s transfers to Manchester City and it cost £41m Manchester City
Nathan Ake will not relegate with Bournemouth as the relegated club has accepted £41m Manchester City bid for the defender ahead of the 2020-2021 season.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been looking for a replacement for City’s former captain Vincent Kompany. The 34-year-old Belgium veteran defender left the club at the end of the 2018-2019 season after spending 11 years with them.
Since then, Pep has not gotten a perfect replacement which forced him into the transfer market this summer. Initially, the Spanish tactician had reportedly shown interest in 29-year-old Napoli and Senegal defender, Kalidou Koulibaly before he turned his full attention to Nathan Ake.
It was obvious that Nathan Ake’s next destination would be a top club instead of playing in the second tier next season because he gave a fantastic account of himself which was however not enough to help Bournemouth to remain in the Premier League.
This season, Nathan Ake who joined Bournemouth from Chelsea in 2017 for Bournemouth’s transfer record fee of £20 million, played 30 games in all competitions for the relegated club in the just concluded 2019-2020 season. In those games, the Netherlands center-back scored 2 goals and made two assists.
As it stands, once his move from Bournemouth to Manchester City is completed, he would become the most expensive player the relegated club have ever sold in their history.
Though negotiations are still ongoing and full details of the deal have not been made public, Futballnews gathered that Manchester City will pay Bournemouth £40 million as the direct cost of the transfer, while the Etihad based club will pay an additional £1m in add-ons as part of the deal.
Who is Nathan Ake?
Nathan Ake was born in The Hague, Netherlands to an Ivory Coast father on 18 February 1995. He came to England at age 15 from Feyenoord football club when he agreed to join the Chelsea youth team.
After two years with the youth team, he was given the opportunity to play with the club’s senior team and made his first Premier League appearance on 26 December 2012. As at that point in his career, he was used mostly as a midfielder.
After a couple of Premier League and FA Cup appearances for Chelsea, the club felt Nathan Ake would be their player for the future. Hence, they offered him a 5-year deal on 8 August 2013 and promoted him permanently to the first team.
In the long run, he was not able to establish himself at the club and Chelsea had to send him on loan to Reading, Watford, and then to Bournemouth. Nathan Ake was impressive at Bournemouth and earned himself a permanent deal with the club in 2017.
Since then, he has played for Bournemouth, 121 times, and has scored 11 goals for the club. His performance at the club earned him a call-up to Netherlands senior national team in 2017.
