Manchester City star Phil Foden underwent surgery on Sunday and was ruled out of England 2024 qualifiers fixture against Ukraine.

The prolific young midfielder watched from the hospital as England outclassed Ukraine 2-0 at Wembley stadium to go top of Group C with maximum 6 points from two games.

The Three Lions were a no-match for the rickety Ukraine squad.

After a scrappy start, they got the game on the way after the half-hour mark and scored two goals in three minutes to condemn the Ukrainians to their second defeat in Group C.

Three minutes later, Saka leveled a Ukrainian defender and fired a beautiful and curved shot from 25 yards to double the lead.

The goals were enough to condemn the visitors to defeat while England bagged their second win in two games.

Phil Foden missed the game against Ukraine after he was forced to go under due to an appendix.

He started the opener against Italy at Maradona Stadium in Naples from the bench but was subbed off by Gareth Southgate after Luke Shaw saw red in the 80th minute.

According to reports, Phil Foden will not be available for both England and Manchester City for a while following the surgical operation.

A statement issued by England national team confirmed Phil Foden was ruled out of the Three Lions squad against Ukraine after he underwent surgery to remove an appendix.

Phil Foden was the fourth England player to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s 23-man Euro 2024 qualifiers squad after being called up.

Another Chelsea star Reece James was the third to withdraw from the squad after the opening win over Italy with a hamstring injury.

England have wrapped up the first phase of their international break with the two qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine. Phil Foden may likely be called up in the next phase of the qualifiers when the international break beckons again.

However, he is set it miss some matches for Manchester City.

Phil Foden was reportedly rushed to a hospital in London after he complained bitterly of acute stomach pain and was diagnosed with an appendix.

Now, he is set to miss a number of crucial fixtures for Manchester City. According to reports, he will miss the club’s showdown against Liverpool in the Premier League, and the two-legged Champions League quarterfinal tie against Bayern Munich.

Manchester City confirmed Phil Foden will miss the club’s clash against Liverpool in the Premier League but added it is unclear how long he will spend on rehabilitation.

“Phil will now return to Manchester to begin rehabilitation. He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for,” Manchester City club statement reads.

Phil Foden has 9 goals and 4 assists in 24 Premier League appearances for Manchester City this season.
