Villareal on Thursday announced that former Arsenal manager Unai Emery would be taking over as the Head Coach after the club sacked its former coach Javi Calleja after it announced on Thursday 23th of July that he had signed a 4 years contract with the club till 2024.
Villarreal confirms Unai Emery
Unai Emery has been without a club since he was sacked by Arsenal in November 2019 after 7 matches without a win. it was suggested that Emery lost control of his dressing as things spiral out of hand.
The Spanish coach started his managerial career in Deportiva 2004-2006, he later moved to Almeria from 2006-2008, Valencia 2008-2012, Spartak Moscow 2012-2013.
Emery had previously lead Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League titles between 2014-2016, where he gained plaudits for his success and style of play before he snapped up by French giant Paris Saint-German in 2016.
In his first season with PSG, he achieved a domestic treble with the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Liga, and Trophee des Champions. PSG finished second in his second season in charge but still ended the season exceeding his first season’s tally with four trophies. despite his domestic success Emery never made it past the round of 16 in the Champion League and domestic success was not enough to earn him a new contract and was replaced by German tactician Thomas Tuchel after the expiry of his contract.
In May 2018, Arsenal’s appointed Unai Emery has its Head coach after the club’s longest-serving manager Arsene Wenger tendered his resignation.

The 48 years old led Arsenal to the Europa League final in his first season but lost heavily against London rival Chelsea 4-1 in Baku, Azerbaijan, before he was dismissed.
Villareal will play in the Europa League next season and will hope Emery can replicate some of the success he enjoyed in the competition with Sevilla.
