The Europa League appears to have been gathering momentum as many clubs now put more seriousness into the second-tier European club competition.
From the recent financial incentives, it offers, to clubs that couldn’t make it into the Champions League stage endeavor to at least be in this competition to enjoy the piece of the big pie – a pay package that could earn clubs a small fortune if they progress through the rounds.
With a team qualifying for the Champions League earning around 50 million Euros, the Europa League has now continued to provide plenty of drama as high-profile teams battle it out for silverware.
What are the incentives clubs get for qualifying?
According to the available facts, clubs that made it to the group state the ongoing 2019–20 season of the Europa League were awarded a base fee of €2,920,000. For each win, a club makes €570,000 and €190,000 for a draw in the group stage. The group winners pocketed €1,000,000 each while the runners-up earned €500,000.
Available research also showed that the Europa League and the 2018 UEFA Super Cup are estimated at around €3.25bn as of June 2018, the stock of the competition rises each year, and clubs participating in it will be smiling to the back with additional cash every season.
This is because UEFA makes his total revenue which is over €3.bn from the selling of broadcasting and commercial rights to partners worldwide for the various club and national team competitions. The bulk of the money which is about 74% is distributed to the participating clubs and associations.
So, this is more reason why clubs scramble for top positions on the logs of their respective league as missing European action could affect the fortune of such club.
