AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic once again shows his mettle for the Rossoneri by scoring a brace that secured a 2-1 win over Sassuolo in the Serie A.

The win has boosted Milan’s quest for Europa League football for next season as they are currently fifth on the log, leapfrogging AS Roma after their win at Mapei Stadium.

Ibrahimovic scored in between Caputo’s goals in the first half to give Stefano Pioli the maximum points.

In the match which Gianluigi Donnarumma made his 200th Milan appearance, the Rossoneri opened the goals account by punishing the hosts for some sloppy play out the back. Ibrahimovic scored his first with a diving header past Andrea Consigli from Hakan Calhanoglu’s pinpoint cross.

Sassuolo restored parity despite being the second-best in the game, all thanks to the VAR. Canhanoglu inadvertently deflected the veteran’s header with his arm and they were awarded a spot-kick.

Calhanoglu later in the spotted Ibrahimovic’s run and released the ball to the 38-year-old striker who rounded Andrea Consigli with aplomb for his second and the winner.

Meanwhile, Pioli has been given a two year contract by the club over his feat with the club.

AC Milan had reportedly been negotiating with Ralf Rangnick to take over from the Italian tactician. But negotiation broke down.

According to a statement released by the manager’ representative, it was not the right time for both parties to work together.

“We won a difficult match against a team who play good football and we came here to win,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re doing beautiful things, but the season isn’t over yet. We’re still vying for our objective. We want fifth place, but qualifiers are fine too.”

Speaking on his future, the striker said he still has three games and 10 days left on his contract, and no-one has told him anything and he is not expecting anything else.

“I didn’t know anything [about Pioli]. You learn something new here every day.

“I’m working, the team feel good and are happy. Since I’ve been here, the table says we should be second.”
