Moises Caicedo has signed a new Arsenal contract just a month after he begged to leave the Amex Stadium.
The Ecuadorian midfield sensation was at the center of a dragging transfer saga in the January transfer window.
Chelsea and Arsenal targeted Caicedo but Brighton were not ready to sell the player. Chelsea’s £55m bid for the 21-year-old was rejected, including Arsenal’s first and second bids.
The Gunners surpassed Chelsea’s £55m bid for Moises Caicedo, submitting a £60m offer for Caicedo which was turned down. The second offer was increased by £10m more but the Seagulls were not cracked, holding their ground despite being presented with a record transfer fee.
After the Gunners’ second bid was rejected, Moises Caicedo sparked reactions by taking to his social media handle to beg Brighton’s hierarchy asking to leave the club.
Brighton reacted swiftly to his Instagram rant, banned him from training, and suspended him from the squad. He was axed off the squad that thrashed Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Following Brighton’s unyielding stand, the Gunners were forced to look elsewhere as the transfer deadline clock ticks to a close.
Mikel Arteta signed Jorginho from Chelsea in the last hours of the January transfer window after the failed Moises Caicedo move.
Chelsea had also backed off and focused on Enzo Fernandez, leaving Caicedo with no option than completion of his contract with the Seagulls.
We had earlier reported Moises Caicedo had gone ahead to delete his Instagram account after the failed push for the Arsenal move.
He returned to the squad in a 1-0 win over Bournemouth and has gone on to make 21 Premier League appearances for the club this season.
According to Daily Mail, Moises Caicedo has signed a new contract extension with Brighton a month after he pleaded for a move away from the club.
Before the unsavory transfer saga, the Ecuadorian midfielder joined the Seagulls in 2021 from Club Independiente Dell Valle signing a four-year contract that will see him stay at Amex Stadium till 2025.
Now, he has signed a contract extension that has extended his stint with the Seagulls till 2027.
