Karim Adeyemi says “Fufu” is the secret ingredient to his pace

Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi has ascribed the source of his electric pace to eating African delicacies like “fufu” after he was instrumental in the Black and Yellows victory over Chelsea on Wednesday. 

Karim Adeyemi scored the match-winner after beautifully running almost the entire length of the field before rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal and afterwards slotting the ball into an empty net. 

The 21-year-old forward was the difference maker as the German side got a slim 1-0 victory against profligate Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 match-up on Wednesday night. 

He has since been lauded for his pace, strength and calmness to score that beauty of a strike, additionally the youngster has linked the source of his bursting speed to eating African foods most notably fufu. 

Speaking with the media after the encounter, Karim Adeyemi, who was born in Munich, Germany to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother said “fufu” gives him his electric pace.

“I eat a lot of African foods but I have good genetics from my dad. (The food) is called Fufu from Nigeria,” he said when questioned about which food makes him run so fast.

He was also seen in a viral clip enjoying the Nigerian delicacy called “Fufu”.

Discussing further on his amazing solo goal, Karim Adeyemi said: “The only thing I was thinking (against Enzo Fernandez) was that I just need to get the ball past him. You just try to win your duels, the goalkeeper came out and there may have been a bit of luck, but I’m delighted with the goal.

“It’s a case of new year, new luck. For me, it’s that simple. As a team, we talked a lot during the break and it brought us closer together.

“The win tonight was crucial and it was unbelievable to play in front of these fans. We wanted to give Chelsea a tough game from start to finish and we’ve won.”

Adeyemi’s numbers for Borussia Dortmund

By virtue of his goal against Chelsea, Karim Adeyemi has now scored five (5) goals and made two (2) assists in twenty-three (23) matches in all competitions.

Karim Adeyemi has made four (4) appearances for the Die Mannschaft of Germany and has scored one (1) goal. 

He joined Borrusia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022 on a five-year deal and he would be with the Bundesliga outfit until 2027.

The Black and Yellows signed Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg in a deal worth a reported £32.5million.

During his time with the Austrian club, Karim Adeyemi scored thirty-three (33) goals in ninety-four (94) appearances. 

Adeyemi on Boxing day in December 2022 came to spend some time in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria before the resumption of Bundesliga activities in January. 

The Borrusia Dortmund attacker was at the Olubadan Stadium, where he saw his team, Adeyemi FC battle in a novelty match against Nigeria Premier Football League club, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan. The encounter ended in a 1-0 victory for shooting stars.

In the midst of the buzz about Karim Adeyemi and how “fufu” helps him in boosting his pace, his team Borrusia Dortmund also posted a photo with the caption “Fueled by fufu” which has gone on to gather lots of traction across the world ever since.
