Manchester United legendary midfielder, Roy Keane has showered huge praise on his former team after they dismantled Aston Villa.

The Red Devil put Aston Villa to the sword with a 3-0 win in a Premier League game played at Villa Park on Thursday. The defeat added Villa’s relegation worries, while Man United boosted their Champions League qualification hopes.

This has given the United legend the confidence to say the side will get to a Champions League spot having regained their momentum.

United, since the restart has been in excellent form, losing no game in the process, which extended their runs to 17 unbeaten games.

The Old Trafford side is 5th on the log with a point separating them from Leicester City occupying the last playoff spot. United was on 11 matches unbeaten before the campaign was postponed for three months due to the coronavirus outbreak.

January purchase, Bruno Fernandes has helped to lift the mood at Old Trafford while inspiring his new team-mates to raise their game. The return of Paul Pogba after successful ankle surgery is another plus to the team as the duo combined to anchor the midfield.

Out of the last five matches since the restart, the Red Devils have won four and moved within two points behind Chelsea who currently sit in third courtesy of goals from Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Paul Pogba.

Speaking on the current form of the team, the former Ireland captain, who won seven Premier League titles and a Champions League with the Red Devils, is impressed with his old club. He said he expects them to go on and leapfrog their main rivals in the race for Champions League qualification.

Speaking with Skye Sports, the ex-United captain also said Man United has the determination to go all the way in both the FA Cup and Europa League.

“I think we’ve said it now for a few months. Even before the lockdown, the momentum was getting back into the club.

“All of the new signings have seemed to have settled in. Paul’s back, Fernandes has been a huge boost for the club. What they have at the moment is a bit of momentum.”

Admitting that Man City and Liverpool are ahead of them,  Keane noted that a few months ago, no one believed they could hunt teams like Leicester down, with their huge advantage then.

“To me now, they look favorites to catch Leicester and Chelsea. The momentum is there at the club. They’ll still want to get their hands on a little bit of silverware. Everyone at the club should be pleased. They’ve got the momentum back into the club, they just need to keep it up now.”
