Jesse Alan Marsch, an American professional soccer coach and former player, was born on November 8, 1973. He now serves as Leeds United’s head coach in the Premier League.
Marsch was a midfielder in Major League Soccer (MLS) for 14 seasons with D.C. United, Chicago Fire, and Chivas USA. During that time, he won three league championships, four U.S. Open Cup crowns, and two caps for the American national team.
Marsch ended his playing career in 2010 and transitioned into coaching, first acting as Bob Bradley’s assistant with the U.S. national team as they advanced to the round of 16 at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
After the Montreal Impact joined the Major League Soccer in 2012, he was appointed as the team’s first head coach.
Marsch was hired as the head coach of the New York Red Bulls in 2015 and served in that capacity until the first half of the 2018 Major League Soccer season. Prior to that, he spent a year serving as the assistant coach for his alma mater, the Princeton Tigers.
The Red Bulls won the Supporters’ Shield in Marsch’s debut season as head coach, and he was voted MLS Coach of the Year.
Marsch currently maintains the franchise record for most victories by a coach.
He left by mutual consent in December and took the club coaching position at RB Leipzig for the 2021–22 campaign. In February 2022, he joined Leeds United.
