Sadio Mane

Liverpool winger, Sadio Mané, started his football career from the humbly beginning before finding his way to Europe despite being stopped by his father on several occasions from playing the sport.

Let’s look at how the Senegalese, who is now a Premier League winner, rose to stardom from the African continent.

Mané, who was born 10 April 1992, began his professional career with Ligue 2 club, Metz, when he was 19.  Austrian club, Red Bull Salzburg, quickly see his talent, and Mane had to move to Austria after a season with the then French Ligue 2 side to Salzburg for a deal believed to be worth €4 million. He won a league and cup domestic double in the 2013–14 season with the club.

He later joined Southampton that summer for a club-record fee of £11.8 million, and he became a menace to defenders in the top league.  Mané quickly settled in England and became the new Premier League fastest hat-trick scorer, scoring in 176 seconds in a 6–1 win over Aston Villa in 2015.

His string of magical performance caught the attention of Liverpool that has been rebuilding after getting new owners. He eventually joined the Reds in 2016 for a reported fee of £34 million.

His performance alongside fellow African, Mohammed Salah, and Brazilian international, Roberto Firmino, got people talking in England as the Merseyside club reached back-to-back UEFA Champions League Finals in 2018 and 2019, winning the latter.

Mane’s achievement

He completed the 2018–19 season as the league’s joint-top goalscorer, winning the Premier League Golden Boot, and he finished fourth for the Ballon d’Or and fifth for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award.

He eventually helped Liverpool to end their 30-year league title drought by winning the 2019–20 Premier League.

He has also scored 19 goals in 69 appearances for Senegal since making his debut in 2012. He is his country’s fifth all-time top goalscorer, and eighth all-time for appearances.

After representing the Teranga Lions, at the 2012 Olympics, he also played in the 2015 and 2017 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal couldn’t win the trophy in the 2019 edition, after ending runners-up to Algeria.

The African  Footballer of the Year also represented his nation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is their second-ever appearance in the competition.

Mané, who won the Liverpool Player of the Season award in 2017, has already override Demba Ba’s record of 43 Premier League goals in 2018 to become the highest-scoring Senegalese in Premier League history.

In the 2018–19 season where he signed a new long-term deal with the Reds, Mane scored his 50th competitive goal for Liverpool against Burnley, to become the fifth Liverpool player to score in six consecutive home Premier League appearances after Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Luis Suárez, and Salah.

During Liverpool’s next Premier League match, he broke another of Ba’s records to become the Senegalese player with the most goals scored in a single Premier League season, scoring his 17th goal of the season in a 2–1 win over Fulham.

Salary and net worth of Sadio Mane

Mane has a net worth of $20 million.

He also earns £7.8 million a year after sign extension deal with the club in 2020., while his salary during the year 2016-2020 was reported to be £90k a week and (£4.75 million) a year.

Liverpool has now extended his stay club till 2025 and offered him a new wage (£230k) a week and (£11.05 million a year).
