Sergio Aguero failed to remember a wager that roughly had £7,000 in it for him, while celebrating the World Cup victory.
A few days prior to Sunday’s World Cup championship game, the retired striker joined Argentina’s training camp.
He returned to living with Lionel Messi and fully participated in the celebrations following the game.
During an Instagram Live, he made sure to broadcast a ton of footage from the locker room, showcasing his jubilant former teammates.
The 34-year-old didn’t remember that his old friend’s antics had netted him £7,000 among the crazy scenes.
Prior to the competition, Aguero placed a wager on Messi winning the Golden Ball, as evidenced by a screenshot he posted to Instagram.
He wagered $1001 (£823) on that conclusion, and it paid off handsomely, giving him $8264 (£6,800).
He wrote: “On 11/17/2022 (November 17), I bet that Messi would be the best player in the World Cup and I just realized it.” after recalling his gamble.
Messi, 35, more than merited his prize after contributing three assists and seven goals during the competition.
These strikes included two on Sunday’s championship game, one of which they predicted would win in overtime.
After Kylian Mbappe drew even to make the score 3-3, Messi added a goal in the 4-2 penalty shootout victory.
Argentina rode an open-top bus out of the stadium before taking a flight back to Buenos Aires.
They returned to Argentina to find a sea of blue and white, with throngs of admirers lining the streets to welcome their heroes.
Sergio Aguero
Argentine striker Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo, commonly known as Kun Agüero, was a former professional football player. He was born on June 2, 1988.
During his ten-year stint with Manchester City, he was regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation and one of the greatest players in Premier League history.
With 12 hat tricks in the Premier League, he is the league’s all-time leading scorer for the team.
Sergio Aguero played Argentina’s under-20 team internationally while they won the FIFA U-20 World Cups in 2005 and 2007.
He participated in the 2008 Olympics and helped Argentina win gold by scoring twice against Brazil in the semifinal.
Agüero, who has more than 100 caps, is Argentina’s third-highest goal scorer in all-time. He has competed for the senior team at five Copas Américas (2011, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021), three FIFA World Cups (2010, 2014, and 2018), and three FIFA World Cups (2014, 2018, and 2022). In 2021, he won the Copa América.
Lionel Messi And Golden Ball Award
As he guided Argentina to their third victory on the international stage, Lionel Messi was given the Golden Ball, the best player award, at the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar on Sunday night (December 18).
He overcame a jinx linked with the trophy by becoming the first player to win it in two World Cups: in the previous six tournaments, the Golden Ball was always won by a player from either the losing semifinalist team or the runners-up.
Messi and Kylian Mbappe were equal with five goals each in the battle for the Golden Boot heading into the Argentina vs. France championship game.
In a day full of surprises, Messi took the lead by scoring his sixth goal through penalties.
Mbappe scored France’s opening goal, which was also a penalty, but if the score had remained the same, Messi would have won the Golden Boot with three assists to the Frenchman’s two.
But shortly after scoring his first goal, Mbappe added a second to overtake Messi in the list of top scorers with seven total goals.
With his extra-time goal, Messi tied Mbappe for the most goals, and he appeared to be in line to win the Golden Ball for most assists.
More drama was to follow as Mbappe scored from another penalty to complete a stunning hat-trick and put an end to the Golden Boot controversy.
The player who has won the Golden Boot by scoring the most goals since it was first awarded in 1982 is Brazil’s Ronaldo, who had eight goals in the 2002 edition before Mbappe joined him at the top of the list on Sunday.
Just Fontaine of France, who scored 13 goals against Sweden in 1958, holds the record for the most goals scored in a single World Cup.
