Egyptian former Coach Says Lionel Messi Improved Mohamed Salah

Undoubtedly, Mohamed Salah is one of the best strikers in the world and very fast on the ball, a trait you can easily link to one of the finest players in the history of football, Lionel Messi. Besides his eyes for goals, it has been proven over time that the Egyptian football star and the Liverpool talisman is a team player and hardly gets injured which are are also traits related to Messi.

So, it wasn’t a surprise when a former coach of the Egyptian national team, Bob Bradley, said that Mohamed Salah became a better player when he took his advice to understudy Argentine and Barcelona football icon Lionel Messi.

Bob Bradley coached the 27-year-old Salah between 2011 and 2013 while he was the head coach of the Egyptian national team. As at the time the 62-year-old American tactician started coaching Salah, the player was just in the developmental stage of his football career.

Then, Salah was still playing in the Egyptian league before he moved to Basel in Switzerland and then to Chelsea in 2014. His spell at Chelsea was so unsuccessful that he spent most parts of it on loan at Fiorentina and Roma before he finally settled in Rome.

When Salah returned to the Premier League to join Liverpool in 2017, he came as a totally different player and a hungrier striker. He became an instant hit in the 2017-2018 season scoring a record-breaking 32 goals in 36 Premier League games, to win the season’s, Golden Boot.

He continued in that momentum in the 2018-2019 season which he ended as the joint top scorer of the league and also helped Liverpool to win the UEFA Champions League. This season alone, Mohamed Salah has scored 16 goals and made 6 assists in 26 appearances to keep Liverpool 25 points clear from the second-placed Manchester City on the league table.

“Salah improved a lot since I left the Egyptian NT, he is a great player,” the former Egyptian national team coach Bob Bradley told Egyptian TV channel Sada El Balad.

“I told him to watch Messi closely, so he can improve his performance and he took my advice.

“Back then I tried to change his position to play deep as a striker because he has the speed. He Is now one of the best players in the world.”
